Thank you everyone for being so friendly.
Its so refreshing to know there are people out there who are doing the same as me.
However, my parents came around for dinner and my father brought with him a bottle of my favourite wine.
I had a large glass during our meal and now I'm back to tonic water and this may sound silly but I'm glad I did have a glass.
With me a open bottle is an empty bottle but not tonight.
My head is still throbbing but thanks to you guys telling me, I now knowi it's because I've been on the lash too much which has made me realise how much my body has been abused.
My face is also full of spots and I'm guessing it's the toxins having an opportunity to escape!!
One of my biggest hurdles is work.
I have to take clients out a lot, lunchtime is fine but I'm dreading it in the evening.
I've already been asked if I was expecting last week when I turned down a drink!
I might tell people I'm on anti-biotics this week.
How do other people deal with situations like this?
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

It's hard isn't it, I went for a curry the other night with hubby and two of his work colleagues. They all had large glasses of wine and I was the only one to have a small glass. No one said anything but I almost felt like the odd one out, silly really :o

I'm just telling people (which is true) that my doctor said I need to be careful with my drinking as my liver is inflamed. The people I have told were shocked as they didn't think I drank that much, although these are also people who drink like I used to so...

I think once you've been cutting back for a while people may get used to it and not bother asking or questioning why. I do find it amusing why people find it odd that others would want to cut back on their drinking, I'm not sure if that's down to the culture in this country of not really seeing our drinking habits as dangerous to our health?
  • Hi everybody :j

11 for me please Shaggy, thanks

I've been doing very badly this weekend, drank far too much wine on both Friday and Sat. I've been feeling really fed up with my job - covering maternity leave, I still don't know when the lady is coming back. Then the usual stress at home with my family. But drinking really makes things worse - I was being so sensible for a few months, but I've really gone backwards. So I'm feeling paranoid today.

My Mum and Dad came to see us this afternoon, though, and this was so lovely - both have been ill, my Mum had ovarian cancer last summer. Anyway, they both seem so much better at the moment, it really cheered me up.

Better go - got to get things ready for Monday morning - I'm absolutely dreading going to work, although I know I'll be OK when I get there. I can't cope with this working full time, I need more time at home to support my 3 teenaged daughters. The job is temp until the new mum comes back from maternity leave - but I'm worried about what I'll do when it finishes. Could always freelance again, but I'd really like a part time job.

    Good night all

    Evening all...

Bit late but lots of ((hugs)) 115k. Please stay around. As others have said, we all have our own issues on here so we can all empathise. Please stay. And good luck with seeking help tomorrow.

Just got back from Mum and Dads. We had a lovely family get together for Mums Birthday/Mothers day. SIL couldn't make it as she has a stomach bug but my brother came. It was lovely. And Dad offered us all drinks when we arrived......and I had a coke. Usually at Mums I'd be backwards and forwards to the bottle of wine in the fridge, helping myself (and inwardly feeling quite resentful if anyone else wanted a glass). It made a nice change to be sober.

  • I'm confused why people worry about having less to drink than others when out? Why do we need an excuse? If you want a small glass of wine or a non-alcoholic drink then have it. Others are less concerned with what you are doing than you think. They are more interested in what they have themselves. If you were to suggest they did the same then yes I think there would be a problem. Otherwise, I think just go for it!!

I think that's right to a certain extent. For me, I think my mates probably would be pretty OK. Hubby on the other hand has been funny about it but I think this is because he's got issues with drink as well.

I said we can cut back together but I'm not forcing the issue on him - he has got to want to do it. He had a check up with the doctor who was shocked at his lifestyle, he laughed about it but not sure if that's a cover.

Can I make it 7 AFD's please Shaggy - not had anything today and even though hubby offered me a glass of wine I turned it down :D
  • Hey PIR. 11 is great for the month so far so don't be so hard on yourself.
IKWYM about Monday morning. I hope the work situation gets sorted out.
Teenagers take a lot of time and energy I know!

Yes that's difficult and I'm sure you're right Lilith. It would make him feel pretty uncomfortable to see you coping with cutting down when he isn't. I hope something gets through to him and you cutting down may just do that in the end but perhaps at the moment it is too much for him to think about.

Phew - finally back here. I had to make notes so here goes:

I am Taurus and I am in very good company as Fay is Taurus as well

HB the poem was wonderful!!! Must go back and copy paste it and print out and go and stick it in bathroom mirrow to read every morning while brushing teeth.

I happen to have the book feel the fear thingy. It was amongst one of the book job lots I have. There are several books that have emerged from those boxes exactly at the right time. Will put it on re read list.

Lilith - did the name come from book by Nora Roberts? She is my favourite author. You are doing so brilliantly!!! Well done! :T

Ummm - next note is "secret" - I can't now remember what I meant with that :o

Me4bargains - wellcome from me too. I always drive to work dos and use that as excuse. When we had xmas lunch my excuse was that I still had work to do - which I did and also then did need to drive afterwards.

DS and DC - hope your sons will find help from GPs

Jo - These people who gave you the job are professional, they have gone through numerous interview processes before to hire staff. I am sure they know what they are doing so if they believe you can do the job then you can do the job. Of course you won't be necessary able to hit the ground running but I don't think anyone expects that from you.

Look who is talking. I have had this business idea (that is compatible with my training and experience) for two years now and I have done nothing about it as I can't convince myself that if I go to potential client I could convince them that I can do the job. This is something that I will be working through that visualisation that someone (sorry can't remember who now) mentioned.

115k - well done on deciding to go and get help. I have been on ADs for 3 years and only after I stopped drinking I have made remarkable improvement. Also my work colleague is on same ADs than me and asked me about alcohold with the medication, her experience was that drink was making her worse.

DC - thank you so much for the scottish falsetto sock puppet links - absolutely hilarious!!! :rotfl:

I guess that is it. I haven't been able to go running due to having a cold but I have been reading about it (the next best thing ;)) and at the moment I am reading book called ChiRunning. Absolutely facinating - will get out tomorrow and see if I can get any of the techniques.

By the way the rottie didn't win. He was sooo handsome thou.
