  • I think I'm at 21, please HB, thanks

Dashing in and off again as usual. I went to London yesterday for a meeting - very grown up - it was great to visit again.

    Night night

    that'd be lager, then. :)

    sorry:o :o

I'd take it out on BT if I were you :o

So the empty calories in any alcohol (including lager) makes you larger! I get it now:p (that smilie will probably be the next to go, very rude to poke your tongue out at people)

So sorry to hear about the disasters in Bear Towers. Will the council people be able to deal with plumbing problems too HB or is that a different department to the hole pluggers?

:Tto eveyone coping with AF tonight. You'll feel good in the morning (best part).

sparkles, I'd go for option 1 if it was me which probably isn't what you want to hear. Would it be possible for you to go for the company and be AF or would your mates just take the ...rip?

Glad your DD is getting support marru and well done on the exercise.

    11AF please HB

Another AFD for me today hey!
What to do about me hee?
Out on Friday with the work crew
    What to do huh?

Day 15 for me HB when you're ready!

Many collegues highly tempting me to go and get hammered on Friday and go for a long night out and get a mega expensive taxi home

Felt tempted to some extent and go on the train and come home earlish.

Now thinking about going in the car, for a couple of drinks then home as I don't want a hangover, rough feeling...etc....etc

How can I hang on to my strength and reduce the temptation of getting slightly hammered with my friends?

I've already told them I'm giving it up soon and this weekend is the last weekend for the next 4 weeks it is allowed.

    Options
    1. go on the train, have a few (3 ish) leave early to get train home and walk home and be home before the pubs close
    2. Drive, leave after an hour and go home to cries of lame and boo and get home in 30mins and a cuppa (why can't I feel stronger about this?)
    3. Don't go
Why do I hang on to the thought of fuzzy alcohol induced night out and then have one more as if I was in my early 20's? Why do I have this argument in my head every day, every time a night out comes up? Why am I not comfortable not drinking in this situation. I feel as though alcohol is controlling me even though I am stone cold sober - what on earth is going on in my head?

Great post. That's how I felt. The thought of not drinking was rarely comfortable. That was my alcoholism - it wants me to drink. My non-alcoholic bit of my brain says I don't need to drink, and don't want to drink, but the two are in conflict, and thus the debating society in my head.
When I knew I couldn't drink safely (i.e. stop after a drink or two and be ok about stopping) I knew I had to stop drinking full stop. And that was pretty scary......
but I am living to tell the tale for today and today only

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Sparkles, been thinking about your dilemma all night, then realised that as I'm a abstainer (or at least should be and taking it day by day :A) that I really shouldn't have commented on your question as my answer would always be no. 2 (or 3). I am extremely uncomortable drinking in public, I know that even if I was able to control the amount I drink I would never be able to drink normally in social situations as drinking is wrong (for me and me only). So, take the advice of the cutter downers on here I think is the best answer :)

Sparkles - I had this the other week when I was in the pub with a friend of mine.... I think this is the problem for most cutter downers / abstainers - the jibes etc etc, particularly as it is unusual for them to comprehend initially. I found that self-deprecation to be the best defence in that situation. e.g. "yes I know I'm a lightweight, now if you'll excuse me, I have to go and try my big girl's blouse on for size...... " it also shows that their digs are getting nowhere :)

As such - I would tend for option 2 and 'front it out' - you WILL feel brilliant for having done so, if that's the option you choose.
