    Morning everyone.

HB - sorry about the miskies. Lets hope the council can get this sorted for you. 26 for me please.

Fay - you really are superwoman. You lugged willow round all day and THEN went for an exercise class!? Either very fit or very mad;)

newme - well done on day 2. Are you aiming to give up completely or cut down?

Maman - you are NOT a lightweight! This thread is as much for cutter downers as giver uppers. I still can't make my mind up which i want to be!:)

I'm a shattered Miss P today. Piglet has a nasty cough and was coughing all night. OH said he will sleep in with him tonight, bless him. Piglet has always tended to cough till he's sick.....not a good thing when your washing machine is broken:eek: So, we've been following him round everywhere wih a bowl:rotfl:

Another quiet day indoors so no doubt I'll be back on here later!!

    Miss P
    xx

Exactly - there are no rules for joining this thread. Cutting down or giving up, all are welcome.

For years I wanted to be a cutter downer - and I tried to drink in moderation practically all the time. However, I felt miserable when cutting down as I always felt I was denying myself drink, and felt resentful at people that were drinking.
And I was rubbish at cutting down. I could go for a few weeks or even months, but eventually I would be back to the same place I was before.
Not remembering part of the night, unable to enjoy many social occasions without drink, hurting myself when drunk, arguing with loved ones, and constant worrying about my alcohol intake.
Thus cutting down was not an option for me.
If I could have cut down successfully and happily, then that is what I would have done. However I am alcoholic, and moderation is impossible for me around alcohol. Thus I had to stop drinking altogether. And what a relief.
Alcohol was no good to me (even though I thought I loved it) - I am glad to not be in an active relationship with it any more.

I suggest do what you need to do - if you can cut down then great, but if not then quitting may make more sense. As long as one is honest about it, then one will choose the right path. I was never honest with myself about my drinking, and always believed that I would be able to moderate in the future. The evidence was glaringly obvious, but I chose to ignore it.
One of the major symptoms of alcoholism is denial, and I had that in spades.
It took me so long to realise I was alcoholic. The fact that I couldn't cut down successfully was lost on me until I reached out for help

I could only come up with 10 ( in the S&G style....)

    Have a juice, Bruce
Go down to the gym, Jim
    Volunteer to drive, Clive
Don't go to that bar, ma
    Go for a run, hun
    Don't open that can, Stan

    go to bed, Fred
    have water with Fizz, Liz
stay out of THAT aisle, Niall

Hello , I have read through this thread a few times in the last few months . And now I feel like I would like to join please ?
My reason being mainly the MONEY that alcohol seems to make me spend - All of which I do not have to start off with
Im certainly not a heavy drinker { However I certainly have been in the past in my twenties before I had my 3 yr old and was only a breath away from being an alcoholic !!} So I knocked it on the head back then . ;) I used to be able to have alcohol in the house for months and never touch it - unless someone prompted me to open a bottle or something , this being after a night out on the tiles with friends in teh past . However I find now that boredom kicks in a little bit more since I became a mother and also since ive been job hunting I find myself running to the shop more often for a bottle of wine / vodka / beer : or whichever takes my fancy at the right price nowadays.or depending on my mood that day . Just so I can relax easier . So on average I can drink around 4/ 5 nights a week , I may add though sometimes this is just one can of lager for example.
As I want to stop spending the money I do try and stop myself quite regulary , but I find this thread will make me do it more easily , reading all your posts and also having a goal I can set myself .
So I would like to set a goal please of 22 AF days out of 30 days please. The reason why I have choose that is because I just want to cut down and only want to take small steps at first . And seeing as I have a few events to go to in the next few weeks where I will be drinking , I see this as appropriate for me .
