  • I am now happily with Asda. I opted out on the Talk Mobile page and the PAC was sent and I ported my number. I only had about £5.00 on Fresh but used everything except about 40p. Asda gave me £1 so I did ok really! My husband still has to use up a bit more then he will go to Asda too. At least with Asda you can use the phone abroad which you never could with Fresh. I am sorry for the people who have a fair amount of top up with Fresh and I hope you get your money back. I am sorry that I even gave 40p to them.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I am amazed by the way Fresh is treating its customers, I certainly won't be using Carphone Warehouse ever again. I have moved to Asda, as a lot of others have.

Using the talkmobile website to opt out of joining talkmobile didn't work for me. I opted a week last Friday and as of Friday gone, I had not received my PAC.
So called Fresh and spoke to one of their operatives who said my PAC request was not on the system and he would send it to the operations team manually. Fingers crossed this will work.

I wonder if this is because my mobile number is now 13 going on 14 years old?

Have just looked at the talkmobile webpage ( talkmobile.com/fresh)
and they've changed the text !!!

    They've added

"If you join Talkmobile and have more credit left on your Fresh Mobile account than we have given you to start with, we will credit the difference by 15th April to your Talkmobile account."

Hope someone can help. I am getting a bit confused. I have a small amount of credit on Fresh. If I change to Talkmobile do I not get to keep that too? I was thinking of transferring to Talkmobile for a little while for the £5 credit as I don't use my phone much. If I did this and then wanted to transfer to some other provider could I do that or would I be locked in somehow? Thanks very much.

P.S Been trying to get onto Fresh site but it won't let me it just says service unavailable. Not sure if this is just me though.

According to the web site, yes, you do now get to keep any existing credit.

I've also been trying to find out the answer to your second question....
but I've now signed up to Talkmobile....so I'll find out when my £5 "plus" runs out !!

Thanks. Managing to get onto the site now but I read their statement as you will get to keep credit if it is more than the £5. I have probably gotten this totally wrong mind as it all seems a bit tricky.

'If you join Talkmobile and have more credit left on your Fresh Mobile account than we have given you to start with, we will credit the difference by 15th April to your Talkmobile account'.

I think that means if someone has £5 credit they get to keep it but don't get any bonus for signing up. So if you have any credit under a fiver you essentially 'lose' it, but people who have more credit get to keep it.

Thanks for the freefone number it works!

Just phoned Fresh customer support. On hold for 12 minutes, two minute conversation, then cut off (on purpose?)!

Tried again, 8 minute on hold, different operator; stated my case again. He agreed to make a refund of all my balance as credit to use in store. I asked for a cheque. He agreed to this but it takes 30 days from last use, less any credit used in meantime before I transfer, or not, to Talkmobile.

Result. So as long as they do what they say I get my £21.46 credit refunded as a cheque after 30 days.

So any other Fresh mobile customer on PAYG with large amount of credit you don't want to lose phone Fresh on 0800 0490800, option 0 and ask for your money back!
Today is the day Fresh are due to port my existing number to Talkmobile after 'opting in' to their service. Nothing has happened yet though and apparently it's set up on a computer by a programmer and Fresh customer support can't do anything therefore I have to assume it will happen sometime today (or not!?).Edit: have been transferred to Talkmobile; that just leaves my £22 Fresh credit to get back.

Whilst talking to their advisor I asked to confirm I would be sent a cheque for existing credit £22 and he said NO!
I gave the date and time of my call that confirmed/agreed a refund and he is going to ask his manager to 'look into it' to see what was said.
He also said I should write to:
    Carphone Wharehouse (Fresh customer)
    1 Portal Way
    London W3 6RS
and state my case (refund of credit on a service THEY are withdrawing).

I purposely didn't use up any more credit in the last two weeks because I was expecting a refund and on the day porting to Talkmobile is due to take place it seems I am not getting a refund, or maybe I am if I jump through enough hoops, write to head office, wait for them to find the call I made two weeks ago and listen to it.

A lot of work by myself and confusion, to lose MY money it would appear!

I contacted Paul Gosling, questionsofcash, at The Independent newspaper as mentioned above by other posters.
I got a phonecall today from CPW Chief Executives Office after they were contacted by Paul Gosling.
Yes I WILL now get my credit refund as a cheque because that was what was agreed on 4th February when I phoned them.
As stated in previous few posts Talkmobile have amended their website now to state that Fresh customers with credit WILL now get that unused credit transferred to Talkmobile IF they go with Talkmobile, that amount being any credit above the 'welcome' credit granted by Talkmobile. Therefore if your Fresh credit is less than the welcome credit you may as well use up all your Fresh credit.
There has been a 'communication problem' which is why they have changed their website details now.
If however you desire a cheque refund the waters become murky again. They are honouring the promise given to me by their operator on 4th Feb. to give a cash refund (cheque). That may be a 'goodwill gesture' rather than a right!? so it's down to your own haggling if you want the cash!

I also managed to get my £100 credit back - but I very definitely won't be staying with talkmobile!
