And I think that passengers should take responsibility for checking flight times...no it's not difficult to send an email and in my case I did receive one more than a month after I noticed the schedule change myself and two months before the flight itself...but I might have missed the email that did eventually come in, etc...at least if I regularly check for myself, I know where I stand.

According to their website you will receive email notification...though it does not say when...so it's entirely possible that you will receive an email at some point...so your concern appears to be not receiving it immediately upon the schedule changing.

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We'll have to agree to disagree. In any other walk of life if we booked something with a specific time, be it a train, a hospital appointment or to see a play in the theatre, if the time changed we would expect to be notified ASAP. I booked Wednesday and the flight time changed Thursday, and I do not think it is reasonable that I should check their website every day when making other bookings. It is 2010 and Ryanair should have a system that immediately informs all affected passengers when a schedule is changed. The database has been updated, so why not trigger a notification email?

How do you know that Ryanair didn't send an e-mail?

Could very well be a problem with your e-mail and not Ryanair.

I have not had problems with any other emails getting through to me, and there is nothing from Ryanair in my Spam folder. Ryanair's booking confirmation email the day before got through fine.

My sister has a flight booked to Girona too in May and hers has also been moved. She did not receive an email either.

PBS why can you not accept that Ryanair is at fault here?
I found out yesterday that Ryanair have moved my EMA to Girona flight from a Saturday evening in May to the following morning (Sunday) and I have not received an email from them. It looks as though they have cancelled the Saturday flight. I have a hotel booking commencing on Saturday so have to try and change this with the travel agent. Can anyone advise whether Ryanair has any liability for additional charges I incur for the change, not that I expect that Mr O'Leary would cough up if they had. There are eight of us in the party and I am dreading what this may cost us!
This is all after they cancelled our original flight from Doncaster and transferred us onto one from EMA.

You also need to ensure you email provider does not apply a Spam filter. I use MS Outlook on my PC but NTL filter for spam before sending emails to Outlook which also has its own spam filter. I am not saying this is the cause but something you need to be aware of.

  • It is possible that there is no right or wrongs at the moment.

This has happened to me before, could I be sure that I was informed as soon as the flight had changed? I could not be sure. All that I can say is that the further in advance you book your flight in advance, the more chance this is of happening. It's rare that should you book a ticket for travel in Feb today, that the schedule will change.

It's entirely possible that such changes are speculative. For instance, the rumoured 20% cuts in the summer for Dublin. To engineer this, the schedules would have to be changed. It's not really that straightforward to change these; as changing one flight potentially has the capability to change the timings of the next four or five for that days.

But - should Dublin (or whoever) stand down in it's demands, the schedules would be reset to normal, as they were. Of course, it wouldn't look professional to send an email to a passenger advising of a change, and then go back, cap in hand, changing it back.

Of course, it isn't professional either for a passenger to only discover a change of schedule online, but this is making the best of a bad situation.
My own guess is that the emails to passengers are only sent when things are confirmed.

I would suspect that if the schedule was changed, you would get an email in due course, perhaps 3 months prior. Of course, there is the chance that differences are resolved, nothing might happen and your flight might leave at the booked times.

Anecdotal evidence seems to support this side of things; it's very rare in today's climate for anyone to turn up at the airport, whether Ryanair or otherwise and find the flight has been changed without them knowing. Of course there are always going to be cases where it has happened to people, but there is no good reason as to why the airline would not email you.

I could only advise, update closer to the time when your flight is. Then, we can apportion blame. Obviously not of consolation to anyone flying, but this is one of the risks inherent in the low-costs.

Thanks for this. I checked my spam folder in Thunderbird (my email program) and I logged into webmail to check it wasn't in my mail provider's spam folder. Nothing in there.
