Ooh whilst we are on a smiley subject....

you really need to add these:

    suspect.gif

    faints.gif

    gaah.gif

    yackyack.gif
    woopdeedoo.gif

How cool are they? How has MSE survived without them?!

we definitely need the bottom 3 - they are brilliant :D I doubt they'd allow them in light of the need to be PC and happy clappy rolleyes.gif

lots of similar alternatives though Martin that can quite easily be used by anyone wanting to use them in the fashion you are looking to stop - the lack of 2 specific smileys won't "try to keep friction down - and hope for open debate without friction", that's a cultural aspect of any large forum and whilst it isn't a nice aspect of a forum, it's a way of life when you have thousands of people with differing views.

You'll always have people who in real life won't say boo to a goose and then become the most objectionable person you can imagine when hiding behind a screen.

It's the way of the internet and the barring of 2 images (which can be easily sourced elsewhere as an identical or similar looking image) just won't change anything I'm afraid.

Perhaps more board guides and moderators will help - the boards need more regular policing rather than abuse being heaped upon and then just panicking under pressure. There must be a better way to check the postings than the current system, perhaps some kind of analysis of the current board guide set up would identify a more comprehensive way to help with the situation, rather than just jumping on a very odd idea of a 'solution' that really isn't going to help.

Removing every instance of a post of anyone who copies and pastes rolleyes.gif and dunno.gif is a job in itself!

    Can I apply?! :D

Like i said elsewhere Martin, its the people not the smilies.

Are you going to police people who source the smilies from elsewhere?

Because if you are not, it seems a pointless exercise to remove them from the list.

....when we weigh up the disbenefit of losing smilies that some people like against the benefit of getting rid of what has rather bizarrely, but accurately been a minor destructive force - we're getting rid of the smilies.
The only problem here is that the 'benefit' is illusive.
I am pretty sure that the abuse team will be able to confirm this soon.
However, they will never do this if they were the authors of this 'innovation' rolleyes.gif.
