Starting my DMP on 1st Feb... Anyone want to join me?

  • Hi Everybody
I keep getting phonecalls from an automated system but no one is ever there, 3 to-day and 2 yesterday. CCCS were writing to everyone on Tuesday, do you think this could be a first reaction and why don't they say something or am I just totally paranoid?

That happened an awful lot to me as well. Unfortunately these calls are apparently automatic and no-one can seem to stop them. If anyone knows anything else it might help you. Basically I screened my calls.

    Hey!

I've just spent the last 1/2 an hour at work (Ssshhhh!) reading through this thread and it makes me feel 10 times better about my situation so I am right on board...if you'll have me ;)

I sent my creditors details back to CCCS yesterday, along with letters to all my creditors (7 in total - Eek!).

I've applied to NatWest for a b/c, just waiting for them to finalise before I cancel DD/SO, although thankfully only one of my creditors was on SO (bank loan) the others I used to pay via internet banking....so hopefully I won't get any calls querying why I cancelled my DD. Just my car insurance and phone bill to transfer over, which shouldn't be too difficult.

Once everything is up and running I will take GREAT pleasure in cutting up my cards :)

One thing I do have, which makes me feel a little better (you may find this odd) is an O2 Cash Manager Card, you just top up from your bank a/c, get text updates and when the money is all gone you can't spend as it's all your money, no credit, no charges, nothing!...I'm going to keep that for my 'spends', makes me feel like I've got a back up...strange I know, but it helps!

I do have 1 question, I will need to move at some stage this year to a rented property - anyone know if my DMP will affect this? I know my credit rating is pretty rubbish but I can use my parents as guarantors.

    I've waffled on long enough...

Look forward to sharing my journey to debt freedom with you!

    Hi Kath

Good to hear you're in my boat! Let's hope the ride isn't too rocky! I'm waiting for final details from CCCS on when DMP will finish, although I think it's about 5-6yrs :(

It do feel like a HUGE weight has lifted, I can finally get on with my life. Looking to move in with my lovely BF, so really hope DMP doesn't affect renting. I'm sure it won't as in essence it isn't credit is it? You're paying rent month by month??

I've seen on here that MBNA & Virgin are fairly helpful with excepting DMP, which is good to hear as they're 2 of mine. Fingers crossed HSBC, Nationwide, Next, Barclaycard, Capital One & Sainsburys Bank are just as helpful.

Thanks for the thoughts and hugs guys, much appreciated. Bit of a shock, he had a heart attack, age 28. Suddenly puts everything into perspective. Have spent the day beating myself up because I don't think I can go to his funeral, both financially (travel to Lincolnshire) and the whole outside thing :(

    Ted, how was your day?

Well done everyone on positive steps and keeping smiles on your faces x

    Dear True
I am very sorry for your loss. Please don't beat yourself up for not being able to attend your friend's funeral. You can mourn his loss wherever you are. Perhaps you could take some time to reflect on your friendship when the funeral is happening?

They are 2 of mine too, Well i have 3 with Nationwide, 1 with tescos, barclays, egg, virgin, Mbna and lloyds - we'll have to keep posted on whos accepted... I hope i dont get too much grief - I think egg can be awkward - this is where CCCs come in - they will keep us on the straight and narrow (I hope)!
You will also have to keep me updated with the renting situation - you might be ok if your BF has good credit - Im stuffed as me and my BF have entered into this together!
    good Luck

Hi all and thanks so much for the welcome messages. I'm just going to cook tea, programme our extremely old dvd recorder (yes, bought on the credit card) to tape "Survivors" and get my act together and start our DMP tonight! _pale_
VicB, the O2 card sounds like a great idea, does it work at ATM machines? I have to visit a lot of dodgy areas whilst at work and I don't like to carry cash with me if at all possible. Not that I've got any cash anyway, but you know what I mean!
Tedsd, I know the phone calls are scary and demoralising but as they always say at CCCS, don't be bullied, they can't have what you haven't got! And let's face it, the banks and co were all quick enough to encourage us to get into debt, let them wait a bit for their money. And remember, the call centre staff are just doing their (horrid) job, it's nothing personal.
True27, sorry to hear about your friend, what a horrible day you must have had. :(

    Hi Coffeebreak, Welcome!

Can relate to the 30 years on credit and now feeling vulnerable, it's like a safety net has been taken away...will feel better when hopefully a DMP is up and running..

Feeling a bit low today, had 2 calls already, Monument and Creation, both silent on end of phone so have used the Sky block and hope it works... never missed a payment on these ever before and have written, explained re my changed circumstances and asked them to write only but they've taken no notice...not sure how I'll cope if they all do the same... and don't want to go off sick again cos then no one gets paid... tears rolling down my face so I'm going to sign off and get myself in the right frame of mind for work.

    Have a good day all...!

    Dear Ted
I am sorry that these companies are harassing you like this. Please don't let them get to you - you are dealing with the situation honourably and with dignity - shame they can't do the same; especially since they have to write off so much due to fraud where they give cards to people who they won't ever catch up with.

I have an account with Creation and suspect that i will start getting the same treatment too. I am going to speak to the Office of Fair Trading and FSA - surely they must have a code of conduct??

Re. call barring on BT. They used to do a service called "choose to refuse" this can bar 10 numbers. I can find it on their website under calling features, but no info given on price, so might be worth a phone call to find out more.
