Hi all i'm VERY new to this - only started looking today. had my head in sand for so long due to starting new business and wife's long term health condition.

Please help - I wanted to know where to start with everything.

We are a family of 4 and we can't pay our bills or rent this month and have therefore told my landlord i'm moving out next week - got to move into mother in laws. they only have 1 spare bedroom for 4 of us and our dog. i dont want to owe the landlord any money by not paying rent.
is the CCCS questionnaire the best place to start? i've done it but not sure if my answers are 100% correct as i dont know which loans are secured on my house (that i rent out) or would i be better speaking to someone directly.

any ideas much appreciated - it seems like i've run out of time and should have got this sorted sooner. i really don't want to move out but feel we've got no choice.

    Thanks,

    D

First off I think you need to speak to a general debt advisor as I think you need more than debt advice. I would ring Citizens Advice ASAP. If you are in the position where you cant actually afford to live ie rent, bills etc then you need to speak to someone straight away. I understand why you want to move and that might be your only option, but there are hardship grants/loans available (although not sure on the criteria) that might just allow you time to come to a budget that will keep you in your home.

You say that you rent out a property, would you consider selling it?

There is no harm in using CCCS's debt form to work out your living costs etc but I wouldnt jump down that road without speaking to someone like CA first. If you can go there tomorrow with all your paperwork, sometimes you dont have to make an appointment, depends on your branch.

If you are gonna go down the DMP route then we will try and give you as much advice as we can, also dont forget there is the CCCS counsellor thread as well.

    Hope that helps :)

Hi everyone. Well I woke up feeling really positive and in control today. Then I took my wee boy swimming and came home to a card from Royal Mail saying that they had attempted delivery of a tracked package today. I am guessing that it must be from one of my creditors and am really worried that they are going to get heavy handed already. Even worse, it says on the card not to try to collect for 48 hours, so I am going to have to wait until Friday to find out what it is. I feel sick.

Try not to worry. I freaked myself out last year when i something similar happened. I'd convinced myself it was something to do with a debt and it turned out to be some innocent documents for someone else in the household. I could have cried with relief :D.

Honestly, don't spend the next 48 hours sweating over it. When you collect the package you'll know where you stand. :)

edit: Well done Nataz on going all 'official' :). Things are finally moving on... hope the rest of us can say the same thing a few days from now :D.

iwillgetoutofdebt - i honestly wouldn't worry - i've never had a recorded delivery package from a creditor (and i've been trying to get to the LBM for about 10 years!). Never know, it might be a late Xmas pressie!

Hi Dugsy - please speak to the CAB or CCCS, anything you don't understand or are worried about just pop on here and we'll be here to help :)

Nataz - :j woohoo!! Check you out all official :p

Tedsd - how did you get the Sky Block thingy to work? I've had to have my phone plugged in for a few days and they just ring constantly!

puredeaddopey - don't you just wish that departments would talk to each other?!! Surely its all on the same computer system lol

Hope you all have a good day, catch you for coffee later

  • Hello everyone,

Its nice to have some people in the same boat to speak to. I too start my payments to CCCS in february, got my welcome pack from them yesterday. It all looks a little scary when on paper. Havent had any confirmation from creditors yet that they will accept any offers though, not sure when or if this will happen. Still getting calls and letters every day though.
Egg have sent me a letter from Capital Credit Agencies telling me to call them or they may visit me at my home address? Does anyone know who these are or have had anything similar? Bit scared to call them to be honest.

    Hi and welcome Girlypink

Try not to worry, more often than not the first lot of letters sent out are computer generated, just standard things they have to say. Ring Egg, explain you are in the process of setting a dmp up with CCCS, give them your ref number and explain (if you havent already done so) that you are going to send a token payment. Egg credit card accepted my token payment when I sent the notification of debt letter, they have since rung once but as its in my OH name they wont speak to me! And remember no one can come to your home and demand money. This certainly shouldnt happen straight away in any case. If anyone does come to the door, again say you are paying all you can afford and ask them very politely to leave and contact you by letter in future.
I assume it is the credit card and not an overdraft, but I imagine its the same either way. Egg dont like you stopping the direct debits but thats their problem not yours :rotfl:

Well I decided to hot foot it down to the post office this morning to make my first payment. Cost £2.50 for the privaledge but at least its done now. The direct debit is set up but it wont start till march as the pack arrived too late. No calls yet today and the post hasnt arrived so its all pretty quiet here. Hope its the same for you all, pure dead dopey cant believe you got FOUR letters on one days, honestly that bank is soooo useless :D

In my challenge to get debt free I am trying to make as much extra FREE cash as poss, so Ive sold my old mobiles for £26 and on closing my savings account I got £4 interest I didnt know about WAHOO! Just need someone to buy all the unused baby stuff cluttering my house and I be quids in.

I have allowed myself a big birthday cake tho so  to everyone and have a brilliant day

  • Welcome Girlypink
its good to have another hand aboard to help keep the ship afloat, we're all a bit new at this so its good to pass ifo between us, and just knowing I'm not the only one in this situation around makes me feel better too. Dugsy, I'm going to sound like your Mum, so please get some advice, don't let the situation drag on until its huge. Still awaiting this pack from CCCS............

  • Its me again, Got the CCCS pack at last and feel all official. Also got another 6 letters from them about acceptances/etc. Another acceptance, from Cap 1. Had to phone them cos their letter didn't mention interest and its a big balance, couldn't have been nicer, yes they will stop interest as long as I keep my payments through CCCS. Very nice polite man. LTSB playing funny b****** though saying that the account numbers we have given them don't exist. Allegedly a common thing for them to say if they don't want to accept. WHY???? Why not just default me and let me get on with paying back the money and by the way do we not own this mob?

  • I got some good news today. MBNA have accepted my DMP, but are saying that they will default me. Egg also sent another letter saying they will default me as the arrears on my load are unacceptable (after just one missed payment ) and may pass my file to a DCA. Unless I get 6 figures on my lottery ticket, they will just have to take what I can offer though

Still I would rather they issued the defaults now, as that means they will be off my credit file sooner rather than later.

 to all the newbies. It is really good having a sounding board to go to, especially this early in a DMP which I think is probably the most stressful part.
