  • Hope everyone is having a positive day :).

Hope you're ok True. Glad the phone calls have stopped for you Tedsd :).

Last year i had the 'choose to refuse' option with BT. I think it was £12 per quarter but if you cancelled before the 1st 30 days, there was no charge. I had it in place for 30 days only, but it helped to stop most creditors calling. But then they started calling on my mobile. This wasn't too bad as i could easily screen them out :).

I read somewhere on this site, that a CO-OP account is the best account to have as most other banks aren't associated with them. I already have a CO-OP account which i don't use so it's finally come in handy.

Will be making some token payments today to the creditors... where is my CCCS welcome pack? :D

I started my dmp with cccs on 1st december and creditors have just received 2nd payment. Feel in control and stress-free for first time in years. A year ago thought I was the only one in UK with huge debts spiralling out of control. Thanks to everyone on here for moral support.

This is great news DMB, glad it's going well for you :). Agreed, this site is a god-send :D.

You're further down the line than i am with your DMP. Have you had any of your creditors make any contact with you since December?

  • Hi everyone. Well I woke up feeling really positive and in control today. Then I took my wee boy swimming and came home to a card from Royal Mail saying that they had attempted delivery of a tracked package today. I am guessing that it must be from one of my creditors and am really worried that they are going to get heavy handed already. Even worse, it says on the card not to try to collect for 48 hours, so I am going to have to wait until Friday to find out what it is. I feel sick.

Thanks VicB, RBS means that's out for me then:( Good idea re Wiki, I need to check some others out as I have a savings account with Halifax BS (nothing in it but was thinking about using it to save for road tax etc)

I did just see a respond from a CCCS councellor (CCCS Q's thread) that evidently linked banks do not communicate with each other?? How true and to what extent I'm not entirely sure.

Guess what... CCCS pack arrived today!!! So its all VERY official now. Going to post office tomorrow to organise first payment. Hope you all get yours soon. When I rang they did say it takes a week from setting it up so I would ring and check where they are. You can arrange first payment over the phone and we get until the 10th Feb so there is no reason why we all cant start it in Feb.

Blimey this thread is getting quite big isnt it. Big hello to the new faces.

For everyone wanting to know which banks are linked to each other http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/savings-and-banking/article.html?in_article_id=440726&in_page_id=7

As far as I know the only major banks not linked to others are Co-op and HSBC. Some of the links are quite sneaky so make sure you double check everything, including savings accounts.

iwillgetoutofdebt try not to worry, its only words, cant really hurt you. Worst case scenario (and I doubt it would be that) is a court summons. And thats not all bad. Make sure you dont dismiss it and let CCCS know whats going on. Just remember they cant make you pay anymore than you can :)

I have found this template letter to send to those bothering you by phone. The CCCS help thread has lots of info on it as well.

    To whom it may concern

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to ask that you no longer contact me by telephone as your calls are causing me considerable stress due to the frequency, and that they are being made at inappropriate times. Please remove my telephone number from your database and send all future communication in writing to my home address.

I have provided the most recent copy of my income and expenditure to make you aware of my current financial situation. I will continue to make my payment of x on the x of every month and will keep you informed of any changes in my circumstances as I am keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible.
I understand that following this request if you continue to call I can contact the Office of Fair Trading to make a formal complaint.

Please confirm in writing that your records have been amended.

    Yours sincerely

As far as I know the general advice from most places re banks is to not use ones linked but if its just small amounts of money then theres no harm. Guess it just depends on how easy it is to get an account opened.

Hi all i'm VERY new to this - only started looking today. had my head in sand for so long due to starting new business and wife's long term health condition.

Please help - I wanted to know where to start with everything.

We are a family of 4 and we can't pay our bills or rent this month and have therefore told my landlord i'm moving out next week - got to move into mother in laws. they only have 1 spare bedroom for 4 of us and our dog. i dont want to owe the landlord any money by not paying rent.
is the CCCS questionnaire the best place to start? i've done it but not sure if my answers are 100% correct as i dont know which loans are secured on my house (that i rent out) or would i be better speaking to someone directly.

any ideas much appreciated - it seems like i've run out of time and should have got this sorted sooner. i really don't want to move out but feel we've got no choice.

    Thanks,

    D

Yes, I've just read that too, think for a while i will put small amounts into that account and see if it stays there! Just read a response re renting, I rent too and am not planning to move but looks like it would have to be a private landlord if I did...

Best to give it a try and HOPEFULLY they won't take the money...keep us posted!

My partner's credit rating is pretty poor too, so I think private renting is our only option. Although I may test the water with an agent, explain that my credit is poor and offer a gaurantor and see what they say. I guess the worst they'll say is no!

I've been looking on the internet and a few good websites which list private landlords, obviously not half as many as agents but at least there's something. Not looking to move until early summer so I'll keep any eye out

Hi Dugsy, I had my lightbulb moment this month too - trust me, a huge weight is about to be lifted.

My first suggestion (and what I did) is to go on the CCCS website and complete their 'Debt Remedy', this will give you a steer in what to do next. Their advice really is invaluable and completely free!

Personally I think you've done the right thing moving out, you don't want another creditor on your hands, so best to get sorted and then move on from there.

    Good Luck! :)
