Was just thinking, while in training for the Olympics in the school car park a minute ago (:D) that it would be nice to know a bit more about each other, other than the amounts of debt we're repaying! Nothing specific, just what jobs we do etc.

I think you all pretty much know everything there is to know about me, but I'll go first if you like? If you think its a good idea that is lol!!

Weeeelll, I'm True, I'm 28, married, DS of 9, dog (Winnie) and cat (Charlie). Live in (not so) sunny Cornwall! Used to be an admin person up until a year ago, now fighting agrophobia and depression (and winning :j) and starting an OU degree in Psychology in May! Love rugby, beaches, taking photos and reading books about anything :D! And thats me in a nutshell (*help i'm in a nutshell...*)

Well, that's three of us in Cornwall, then - anyone else lurking nearby...?!

    Update:

My new bank account wobble is over, thanks to the nice people at the Cooperative Bank...but talk about a basic account! Mind you, given my situation I'm sure it's no more than I deserve (or can clearly be trusted with!).

Capital One have sent a very understanding letter to my husband, although they won't freeze interest until they hear from our DMP people (expecting it to be sorted by the end of the week but we're clearly all keeping them quite busy!!).

Lloyds, with whom we both have (had) current accounts, credit cards and an overdraft have gone very quiet (why do I get that 'calm before the storm' feeling?!).

Egg's phone calls are still going strong (currently in the lead for 'most persistent creditor' title).

    Everything else is still quiet....

...in the meantime, we managed to get through big weekend of family birthdays on the tightest of budgets; it's amazing how you can manage on next-to-nothing when you simply don't have a choice!

I am also struggling with the fact I can no longer reach for my CC when I want something. Makes me realise just how used I was to having things when I wanted them. Got a few emails today offering me discounts from my favourite clothing and beauty stores. Previously I'd have taken advantage, using a cc, thinking I was saving money due to the discount! I can see where I went wrong, but the realisation (and cold turkey now) really stings!

Hi True, I just had to butt in and share that I am in the final six months (!!!!) of an OU degree (Humanities with English Literature) that seems to have taken over most of my 20s! Best of luck with your study plans, the OU really are fantastic. In the meantime, to reciprocate on the rest: I'm 30, live with my husband and our (spoilt Siamese) cat and I work in education as a tutor and curriculum manager. I have lots of interests but they've been taken over by study as of late! They used to include shopping but I've suddenly had to go cold turkey on that one....! ;)

    Ooooh a quick 'about me'

I'm 28 (nearly 29 ) live in greater London, but work in central London (near Oxford St), doing media promotions (sounds more glamorous than it actually is!). I've been with my lovely boyfriend for 11 years and at the moment (if all the DMP plans go ahead) we hope to move in together in June (renting). Which really is all I want from 2010! :smileyhea

...I know you're all wondering how we've been together 11 years but don't live together, he practically lives at mine (with my parents) and due to laziness and also his career change (he decided to train as a plumber at 29), and other dramas I won't bore you with, we haven't really thought about it...and also that I spent all my money instead of saving it! :(

Looking forward to getting to know you all a bit better :)

True - I see you like reading? PLEASE tell you've read Shadow of the Wind? It's amazing, one of the best books I've ever read. I've also just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns, which was v good.

  • Idle question. I had my phonecall with PayPlan last Friday, got an email from them saying they are happy to help with some solutions but in the meantime a friend suggested calling CAB and talking to them as a 2nd opinion before agreeing to whatever PayPlan have in mind. Phoned CAB today, man suggested "Bancruptcy" rather than a DMP he also said it was worth me dropping in to a CAB with my paperwork. So am wondering have any of you had that as a suggestion and why would it not be a good idea to take that route? I probably will drop in to a CAB and see someone face-to-face. More confused than ever now.

there is a world of difference between bankruptcy and a DMP. I can't really advise but if you post up a SOA on here there are some very wise heads around who would be happy to advise. Do you have a house or assets of any kind because you would probably lose these if you go BR. Just be careful

  • No I don't have anything. Wonder if that is why he mentioned the "B" word? He said it would affect my credit rating, but what won't?

Vic - I haven't read Shadow of the Wind, although I certainly will now! My mum pinched my A Thousand Splendid Suns before I had chance to read it, but its on the list! Currently re-reading some of my favorite books while I try to reduce my collection a bit. What with my book fetish and OH's DVD collection there won't be room for us in the house soon!!

Living in central London is an absolute dream of mine! And so close to Oxford Street! Jealous much!!
