LOL I'd recommended that the SP salesman who called on me go home and read up on MSE so that he knew more about his subject. Perhaps he did haha!0 -
These people are often taught psychological control techniques. The trick is not to engage with them at all. At most, say No and shut the door. Under no circumstances engage with them or give them any information whatsoever.
Remember, if you are talking to them, even trading insults with them, they are in control.
As for bogus 'meter readers', that's a matter for the police.
Don't hesitate to treat these creatures as the vermin that they are."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -
Colin, please read my post above, post #5 - I understand that this was years back now, and am hoping more is done when salesmen completely overstep the line these days, but it seems to me that the "take appropriate action" line is used as a general pacifier! I personally believe that the salesman mentioned in my experience needed a little (infact a lot....) more than just refresher training!
If that post was from years ago (from Scottish Power) then it proves that NOTHING is being done about these salesmen. We only recently have had trouble mis selling gas and electricity on the doorstep. They ought to be banned.0 -
Colin's silence on this thread since the initial posts speaks volumes and indicates Scottish Powers slack atitude towards these conmen.
I dont think they really get taken to task personally, I bet its all back-slapping and cigars when the salesmen meet up.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

It's not the first time something like this has happened on this board. Over on the Parking Fines threads we had a representative from the British Parking Association join to answer some of our criticisms of private parking companies. After trying to defend the indefensible, and getting a roasting from some very knowledgeable posters, we never heard from him/her again. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

But Colin has been posting today over on the Gas and Electricity forum...
Its a shame tbh, we all know its not Colins fault he cant defend what they do and its unlikely he can do anything about it, but you would have thought at least SOME reply from him (even after speaking to their PR/legal department or whatever) would have been nice.
Not a good move for SP, would be very off putting for prospective customers.
I am actually with Scottish Power myself, havent had many problems with them as a customer but hate their salesforce (and all the other companies) with a passion, they lie, cheat, manipulate and decieve to get sales, that is NO WAY to conduct business.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
OH lives in a flat, we constantly get people coming around from various companies to 'read the meter'. Not entirely sure why as he often submits meter readings online, but after reading a lot of MSE threads we now decline to let them in, unless they are from British Gas and have made an appointment.
Had one guy today from Scottish Hydro knock on the door, "Hi, did someone from our company visit you before Christmas? No? Oh, well they should have! We actually supply your gas and electric, we own all the infrastructure in this area, and your property was flagged as being charged a bit too much - let me ask, are you happy with your gas/electric bills?"
Sounded like he was heading for the "cut the middle man" spiel, OH replied that he was happy and the guy took the hint quickly and left. Then again, we're in our early twenties, probably not as vulnerable as he was hoping for!0 -
The stuff they say is hilarious (as long as you know it's lie's)
Funnily enough another SP rep arrived just as as I had came in from work ( I work for British Gas.) So as I always do I give them there 5 minutes of limelight.
I was told these lies.- British Gas was now German owned.(Orders Orders Must be Obeyed)
- Scottish Power IS £300 cheaper a year than BG
- British Gas buy there gas from SP
- Scottish Power is Scottish owned. (I said oh yeah by duncan Bannantyne SP Rep relied yes I im sure thats the guy.)
- Ashley Cole did not cheat on Cheryl.
- Glasgow Celtic are a good team.
