scottish power - lying and pushy salesman

Interesting that I have found this thread.
I recently moved home and, despite us being existing Scottish Power customers, they wanted to charge us upwards of £400 to have the meters removed so we politely jumped ship and joined up with Scottish Hydro who offered to do it for free.
As soon as we had the supplies moved over we had a visit from a Scottish Power salesman who was quite certain that Scottish Hydro would not remove the meters for free - they were lying to us and he had seen it happen loads of times - my husband was in and told him it was me who deals with these things so he said he would return. We arranged the free removal of the meters and the other night the Scottish Power salesman came back when I was in.
He told me that, under new laws, council house tenants could not, for any reason have the meters removed and if we did so we would be breaking the law and could be fined heavily from the council.
lets just say he wasnt 2 mins out of the door but I was on the computer sending a rather lengthy complaint email to Scottish Power about his behaviour - had I been someone elderly or a little slow and gullible, I would have been terrified out of my wits and he worried my children who thought their mum was going to get in trouble from the council for having the meters removed.
Im so mad:mad:0 -
Hi Anthillmob
I am sorry to hear about the poor attitude of our salesman and the incorrect information he was providing to you. I appreciate your concern for your more vulnerable neighbours and we to do not accept this kind of behaviour from our sales staff.
The best advise I can give is that if you are prepared to speak to a sales agent at the door, I recomment obtaining his name and id number initially, so that if he continues to provide you with poor attitude and very poor service, then we can take the necessary action against the individual.
We are grateful to people who take the time to contact us when this is happening so that we can address the situation as quickly as possible. With the correct information (sales agent name and id) we can quickly locate the person to take appropriate action.
Again I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
Colin @ ScottishPower
Can you comment on the fact that both the Trading Standards Institute and Help the Aged are calling for a complete ban on doorstep energy selling. Isn't this a thorough condemnation of the murky world that you are involved in?What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
You can always tell when an energy salesman is lying, they open their mouth!0

My 76 year old mother signed up to change her gas and electricy supplier when a salesman knocked on her door on the 11.08.2009. As he offered her a cheaper deal £100.00 less a month and told her she was paying 'way over the odds' for gas and electricity she signed on the dotted line.
3 months later she has now got a debt of £900.00 because she wasnt paying enough because of this salesman. Scottish Power said that they are going to pass this on to the salesmans manager who will deal with him appropriately. I have already heard one other report from someone else in the village that he has done the same thing to them. My mother got a very big shock as they wanted to put her monthly direct debit up to £328.00 to cover the debt. Scottish Power rang on nearly a daily basis to get her to pay the money it was terrible. If she lived on her own I don't know what she would of done. It is wrong and has caused so much stress and worry. I contacted Ofgem and they have passed my complaint to Trading Standards. It all makes me sick. The Salesmans name was Mohammad Ali if he comes knocking at anyone elses door. Agreement no 114986106. Personally, I don't think you will do anything about him. As of August last year it was still going on.0 -

Absolute scumbags every one of them, an energy salesman that says he doesnt lie to get a sale is the biggest liar of them all.
I had the misfortune to meet someone that had been working for Southern Electric as a door knocker last year, some of the stories he was gloating about made me want to punch his slimy little face in.
His favourite anecdote was when he knocked on the door of a blind woman and actually held her hand and guided her to do the signature on the switch application having told her she was signing to say he had read the meter.
It took every ounce of my willpower not to punch his smug, slimy, horrible, little rat face when I heard that.
I would never EVER entertain any of these little tossrags if they knocked on my door and it sickens me to think they are knocking on the doors of elderly and disabled people and taking advantage of them and then laughing about it afterwards. As long as they get their commision then they couldnt give a toss what they do to people.
The sooner doorstep selling is banned the better.
Urge everyone you can not to give these idiots the time of day, especially any elderly relatives. Anyone who has had their doorstep darkened by these idiots should pursue the complaint as much as possible and everyone should complain, not just to the suppliers but to Ofgem and anyone else that will listen as despite whatever the suppliers tell you I bet the majority of these complaints get swept under the carpet.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
I had someone from Southern Electric knock 2 nights ago, (I know this is the 3rd time they have called as my son answered the door twice and told them I am not interested in changing supplier)
The guy proceeded to tell me that my supplier was buying my gas from them and charging me a higher rate. I asked him to tell me who my supplier was and he couldn't tell me, so I then asked him how did he know what I was being charged if he didnt know who supplied my gas.
He told me that S.E supplied all the gas to all the other companies :rotfl: so obviously they would be cheaper.
I then asked him if he thought I looked stupid or mentally disturbed in some way that I would fall for this shoite that was falling out of his mouth, oddly he took offence at that and stormed off.0 -
At my last address, had loads of problems, my then supplier nPower got in touch with me loads of times to ask if I had consented to Scottish Power taking over my energy supply, I had never even heard of Scottish Power at the time, and it caused no end of hassle, phone calls back and forth etc. Apparently they are known for doing this kind of thing. I'd loved to have known the ins and outs of it, like I say I'd never even heard of SP and certainly knew nothing about 'changing' to them?! Just waiting for it to happen again. Jog on Scottish Power!!Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0

If you're planning on switching to Scottish Power do it via Quidco. That way you get the commission rather than a dodgy salesman.
Wow! I am new to this lark but had a visit from Scottish POwer today and decided to switch from British Gas to SP for gas and electricity as they can save me £100 and £160 a year. The "I'm not a" salesman seemed nice and not at all pushy so I signed up with him. After having a look at your post I have a squiz at Quidco and would much rather an extra £120 for me on top of this!
I have a 7 day cooling off period with SP and can cancel without penalty. Do you think I should do this and sign up anyway through Quidco?0
