We are plagued with calls from BG and doorstep power salesmen. All of the doorsteppers start with a dodgy line like, "I'm just here to check you are on the correct tarrif..." I have found that telling them you are on a fixed term contract and can't change for 2 years usually sees them off.

The activities of these people are a worry though - I reckon there are thousands of vulnerable people or elderly who have changed suppliers without knowing it, not to mention the forging signatures scam.

Just tell them you are dying to switch suppliers because you have hundreds of pounds of arrears - works a charm!!!

    Hi Anthillmob

I am sorry to hear about the poor attitude of our salesman and the incorrect information he was providing to you. I appreciate your concern for your more vulnerable neighbours and we to do not accept this kind of behaviour from our sales staff.

The best advise I can give is that if you are prepared to speak to a sales agent at the door, I recomment obtaining his name and id number initially, so that if he continues to provide you with poor attitude and very poor service, then we can take the necessary action against the individual.

We are grateful to people who take the time to contact us when this is happening so that we can address the situation as quickly as possible. With the correct information (sales agent name and id) we can quickly locate the person to take appropriate action.

Again I am sorry for the inconvenience caused. If I can be of further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Kind Regards

Better yet, why not put an end to all your lying scumbags harassing vulnerable people on their doorsteps?

If you're planning on switching to Scottish Power do it via Quidco. That way you get the commission rather than a dodgy salesman.

Colin, please read my post above, post #5 - I understand that this was years back now, and am hoping more is done when salesmen completely overstep the line these days, but it seems to me that the "take appropriate action" line is used as a general pacifier! I personally believe that the salesman mentioned in my experience needed a little (infact a lot....) more than just refresher training!

Although this can be very distressing to some people i would love a pushy salesman to come to my door,i have no ingenious method in dealing with them apart from an inpolite F**k***.

Please dont be aghast at my method for ridding myself of these overpushy scumbags,i reserve this method for only the die hard idiots who refuse to listen when i tell them i do not want there service.

    Otherwise im very polite....;)

update. i had a call today in response to my phone call made yesterday in complaint. havent yet checked my email to see where the written [ish] complaint is going.

very helpful lady, deserves an applause even though she works for scottish power herself. asked me what happened. told her the whole thing. advised she is sending it off to that areas complaints people, asked me for a description of the caller etc. why didnt i get a name? [i ask myself this] i was so incensed i didnt think of it, i know he said it but it was such a quick speil to try and enter my house, honestly hello miss tombs [knew my name], im [insert name] here about your gas, scottish power, id thrust in face, attempt to enter property.

she called me back later this arvo to say they believe hey know who it was and its being looked into and isa sackable offence.

do i want someone sacked from their job in the current climate i ask myself? yes, is the answer if he is going round using ta ctics like this to get his commission.

she also mentioned if this is the case he will not be allowed to trade in this business again as will be stripped of his something-or-other.

    do i feel bad? NO

dont know if i'll hear anything else.
