scottish power - lying and pushy salesman

Options
at lunchtime today there was a knock at me door. some bloke standing there immediately put his foot in my door [that had helpfully been opened fully by my 2 kids who were being nosey], shoved his ID card in my face, introduced himself [didnt get his name] said he was here about my gas and lifted his other foot as if to enter my property. luckily i realised what he was about to do and i blocked the doorway.

he was from scottish power. he told me that my GAS provider had mis-sold me my tarif and he was here to help me claim what was owed. I pointed out i was with EDF and i will deal with them directly rather than himself as he doesnt work for EDF. he told me that EDF wouldn't be able to help me as he worked for scottish power who provided the gas supply we have to EDF. I asked him for proof of this, which of course he didn't have. he tried to go on about me being mis-sold my tarif by EDF and that he was here to merely help me get what I was entitled to, threw some calculations at me that made no sense.

very persuasive and if i wasn't clued up on what his game was, or vlnerable, i probably would have believed him. very rude in his attitude also and i could tell he didnt like a 'bored housewife' being clued up to his real reason for calling.

i asked him outright if he was here to get me to switch providers as ive been stung before by a lying toad from british gas where i used to live and wasnt about to fall for his speil. he told me absolutely not, was very rude in his attitude towards me and his voice rose a little.

again i told him that i will deal direct with my energy supplier and he then said 'but your electric....'

i said to him 'you told me your were here about my gas and now you say electric' to which he replied, with a sneer, 'madam i said gas and electric when you answered the door', i told him not to stand there and blatantly lie to me, he insisted that i was calling him a liar.

i could have stood there all day arguing with him. but it was lunchtime. so i said 'i'm bored now mate, im closing the door. bye'

immediately i called EDF who confirmed that scottish power do not have anything to do with EDF, he was obviously trying underhand tactics to get me to switch suppliers. my gas is provided to EDF by the national grid and my electricity comes direct from EDF themselves. they also signed me up for an extra nectar points reward scheme at no charge to myself whilst on the phone to them.

at any point i could have got my mum who was sat in my living room to fetch the dog to escort him from the premises [cain wouldnt hurt a fly but he would protect us if needed]

so be warned people for the underhand tactics used by energy providers. im especially peeved as there are a lot of vulnerable people living on the estate wo will buy his crap.

is there anywhere to complain to scottish power? email would be better, i did speak to customer services who wouldnt give me an email address and 'took my complaint and will pass it over'.

a high up person would begeat as this was well out of order and he obviously preys on the vulnerable with this crap. things like this should be outlawed.

my mum had one once [and didnt know who it was] said they wanted to read her electric meter, got in, demanded her bill and tried to get her to switch.

When any of them lie to me like that, I offer to show them online the deal I have - it seems to put paid to them. Liars, I hate them.

  • Back in 2001, I was home alone in my flat, hubby who is in the forces was on detachment in Turkey.

A knock on the door came at about 7pm, and a scottish power salesman stood on the doorstep - did the usual patter about reducing tariffs, etc etc. Newly married (and young, unconfident and impressionable...aged 19) I thought we could do with saving some money, so let him have his say. In he came, explained a little more, to which I said I wouldnt make a decision there and then without confirming with my husband. He got quite stroppy, so I said I would phone and ask him, by this point just feeling uncomfortable and wanting him out of my flat. So, a mobile phone call to turkey (bearing in mind the extortionate abroad call prices back then) and my hubby is on the phone, and sensing my tone told me not to do anything there and then. The salesman SNATCHED the phone from my hand, and began his patter down the phone! That incensed hubby no end, who eventually hung up.....

Did it end there?! Noooo.... The guy said he would stay and 'convince' me that this was the right thing to do, and despite my protests TOOK OFF HIS SHOES, put his feet up and said he was basically there until I agreed a signature. By this time I was nearly in tears, didnt know what to do - I then said I had a friend coming by at 8.30pm to go out (a lie). Its was now about 8.20pm - he hastily put on his shoes, before saying he was back in the area tomorrow and would certainly pay me another visit. I was terrified, could barely sleep that night worrying about the next day.

I went into work the next day, clearly on edge, and was asked what was wrong. As soon as the story came spilling out, I was in tears, shaking like a leaf. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the police became involved, scottish power informed - and what was the result? A crappy apology letter, saying the the manager of the salesman involved had been instructed to give 'refresher training' to his team members!!!!

    OMG!!! what an !!!!!!.

my mother for some obcure reason never told me until today about the one who got into her house pretending he wanted to read her meter and then demanded her bill and tried to get her to change tarrifs. i really dont know what happened apart from that. how she got him out is anyones guess and she wouldnt tell me, i assume she must have threatened to call the police or something. but why didnt she tell me? she told my sister in yorkshire but not me and this happened just after i moved ino my house which is a five min walk from hers.

shame she dont know what co he was from.

i watched this guy like a hawk and as soon as he flashed his id he hoiked himself up to enter my house and i immediately spread myself to block the door. i knew he was trying to get in. if he had he would have then met the dog courtesy of my 4 year old who can now open the back door and let him in and out. as i said he isnt vicious but if i or the kids showed any signs of extreme stress he would go off on one of which i have no doubt, even barking would do.

ive text my immediate nei9ghbour as she wasnt in and warned her and she will pass it on.

im incensed by this i really am. cocky little tw@ like boy from the jeremy kyle show, thats what he was like.

the thing i has once with british gas was someone cornering me when vulnerable and low in the rain. i eventually said no only to find he had got me to sign a document he had concealed the mostof [i wasnt with it mentally] and furthermore had forged a contract signature]. believe he just got retrained.

During this time he tried to say SP Standard was cheaper than Websaver 3 with my staff discount.

I remember having a pushy Scottish Power salesman. I told him I was on the cheapest tariff around and that I was in credit with NPower, he tried to push and I told him that I don't make decisions without looking at all the options available first and certainly don't take the word of a salesman. So I closed the door in his face.

I hate pushy sales people, or anyone who tries to take my money, or tries to guilt you out of money if it's for a charity (I don't mind giving to charity, but not when I had very little money myself whilst unemployed).

I had one from Southern Electric who called when OH was at work and I was in on my own, who tried to get in to have a look at the meter etc, and he got quite nasty when I told him that he would have to call back when OH was there. When I shut the door on him eventually I rang our own energy supplier (Scottish Power ironically, part of Scottish and Southern) and spoke to the loveliest loveliest man who couldnt apologise enough and was disgusted when I told him I had also heard the salesman being equally as nasty to the woman next door who has severe mental health problems and he said that was a sackable offence and the guy would probably be sacked.
I dont feel great about getting someone sacked but its obvious that he shouldnt be going round frightening lone females...
