sorry spud wasnt ignoring you was tying v. slowly! Can understand OH's fear - I cut all my cards up then got one back for emergencies but& felt more secure. The problem is that if youkeep spending what you havent got you'll end up bankrupt, loose the house (if you have one) etc...but that doesnt make it any easier & DFW does reauire a whole change of lifestle...big hugs for you both..spud30 wrote:I wish I could get my OH on board.
He met me on Friday afternoon drunk and depressed - says he feels life is going downhill fast. I pointed out life has been going downhill every day of the last 10 years due to £36,000 of overspending. I think we are now at the bottom of the hill, and the only way is up.
His biggest fear is that something will go wrong with the car and he wont be able to get to work. Now that the credit cards have been cut up, we wouldn't be able to have it repaired at the moment as we currently have no savings.
How do I get OH to see life can only really get better, or is he right? Am I just looking at things through rose coloured glasses?Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
Yeah elantan, for a mo I thought you were going to say you brought one home:eek:    !!!!
Spud, sounds like his lightbulb is on but his eyes are shut - I'm sure he's getting there, hang on in there.
ff:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: what are you drinking gin with? am currenltly drinking wine but will be dieting with gin shortly. diet ginger beer goes nicely.
As for £120!!!!!!! don't let lynz see that!!!!! Is a new BBC prog starting (tonight?????) about miracles, including the feeding of the 5000. I reckon lynz could undercut him, and still have change from a fiver!!!!!:T :TA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Thanks FF love !!
I'm sure it's the loss of his security blanket he's panicking about.
My biggest fear is that he blames me for our situation. Whilst we got into debt very much together, it's because I lost my job that we can't pay it back.

haha well, Im not sure thats the case- damn I wish it were. We went tescos today and spent silly money - this never happens when Im on my own but needed OH to help with carrying  adn hes a stickler for a bogofSaying that we might be able to get away with not spending much next week, so the challenge ( i thought I would win hand down :rotlf: is well and truly ON!! Come on gang- lets do it!!
Ps Scottish Spendaholic-loopyloulou had that figure for her, OH, 2 mogs, so I tihnk its fine!!
The best thing about challenges I think is not, can you do them with ease, but can you struggle. If Id managed to come in under 80 this month, then I would have reduced the monthly target to 80 IYSWIM. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
it is hard spud i aint ever gonna be able to tell you it aint ..for us it was forced upon us..up till then we were spending taking interest free credit every where always paying everything on time(but no more) then his company got changed and we had no choice...i've been doing (especially) reading on here, getting the tips and when talking to him it's like you know i think we are paying too much for electricity etc i'm gonna look into it ..then going back and saying ..wow i can get it so much cheaper think we'll try that so that we don't have to pass on takeaways too much (he really really loves these) and getting him to think ..oh if i don't have this i can have that etc...and for the couch the agreement was (now this might sound sick ..i don't mean it to) when the cat dies i'm getting a new couch ..so when the cat died in feb i took him out looking and the one he/son liked was £2500 ..(but by this time he had gotten wind of the company changing) and i just kept stalling and stalling ( he would've bought that day..as i said previously we spent and spent and spent like no tomorrow)..then last night when a friend said she could give us her old one ..i pointed out the £2500 saved (and the fact he wont have to give up £2500 worth of takeaway's lol) then as i said today ..was astounding to me ..spud it was little things ..and he has moaned and moaned (still moaning about the challenge lol) but like you we can only go up now ....and your attitiude is right ..glass half full is the way to go ...sorry this is long ..rambling again..0

lynz i reckon you coul've done it if you were offered it lol..i'm actually looking forward to next week ..hope you don't mind me picking your brains (and everybody else's)...i actually woke up today and after taking pain killers ,water and gathering myself thought oh god 4 days..what have i done, but as the day goes on i'm getting more and more excited..maybe it's cause i'm top of the world today.....i've cheated so far however and put feelers out for advice form a few sources lol ..i will be shocked if i do succeed this month ...but it will be a start and maybe next month i will succeed0

Thanks Elantan,
Sorry to have butted in on your thread by the way !!!
I guess I just have to be clever, and make him think it's all his idea
He often asks what I find to do on here, and I have asked him to come on and have a read, but he hasn't as yet.
My OH loves his takeaways too, so I think if he still gets the occasional curry, he'll be OK. :beer:Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:
