  • Hi everyone, can I join your friendly group?, I lost a load of weight this time last year with SW but sadly have gained 2.5st since last summer for no other reason that I eat crap! So I have just started running again and am trying to get back into the SW way, I don't go to class (I used to be a consultant so know the plan inside out, apart from EE which I'm trying to get my head around) but I want to lose 2st 7lbs in total and would prefer to have this off or the majority of it by summer.

Started yesterday but feeling a littl uninspired at the mo

  • Hi

Any more room for a newbie?

Just rejoined SW last night. Have masses and masses to lose and lost 2 1/2 stone on SW last year but have put it all back on (stopped going around October time).

I think SW is a fabby diet and works really well for me and I do great over the first few weeks, then lose my willpower. It is a pattern that I seem to repeat year in year out. I have overall about 8 stone to lose so am rather a hefty lump to say the least.

I am hoping if I come on here every day it might help me through the tough times and actually reach a reasonable weight!

    Thanks

welcome to all the newbies, I hope you find the plan as good as the rest of us!!

belfastgirl - I had quite a similar evening last night but instead our consultant went over extra easy for everyone. I quite like the mugshots, but also agree that although they're 'free' it's obvious they're not technically healthy!! I think the consultants only push them as other well known diets have lots of ready meals and easy snacks whereas slimming world don't, everything is supposed to be fresh, and although I much prefer this, every now and again I just don't have the time and maybe because of that the SW head office have decided to push them a wee bit?? Personally I feel though that if one was to have absolutely loads of any one thing it can't be good for you, SW promotes a healthy balanced diet (why it's important to have your syns and HEs). Just my little opinion but thought it may help :)

Hi, I do understand what you mean as at my group they were talking about mugshots and pasta n sauce and your right the younger ones who dont really cook were taking notes as it would suit them.
However our class is big at promoting and sharing new recipes and sharing so everyone can try, they are big on home cooking. I do eat the odd mugshot and pasta n sauce if im in a hurry or have nothing else in. They are ok on the odd occasion but I dont think it would be very healthy eating them everyday. I dont think its right that your consultant is pushing them as they way to go, as you said it should be a healthy and balanced diet, which means lots of fresh food and fresh veg. I would maybe suggest to her that you all do a taster evening that you have to bring something that you have all made that week or all swapping ideas on what they have made that week.
Maybe after hearing all the good things you can have they might only choose the mugshots etc as a rare snack.
Oh dear well 1lb on last night although not really a surprise after the weekend I had. I'm determined to get to my first stone award by next week so that's 2.5lb to lose - I think that's doable though because I know I'm retaining some fluid at the minute.

Can I ask what happens at other people's meetings? Last night our consultant decided not to go through all of the weight loss/gains (obviously a relief for me!!) and just talk about issues people are considering. But...how to say this nicely...her answer to almost everything is mugshots. Which I would not put into my body in a fit. There was a major discussion on which potnoodles are SW friendly and the fact that those pasta and sauce mixes are great. I was finding myself getting increasingly irritated because I really genuinely thought SW was about eating healthily and as far as I can tell these things are c**p. Starting to worry SW somehow profits from sales of some of this stuff? Anyone else experiencing this? It was bad enough that I could see a lot of the older members feeling sort of the same as me. But worse that younger members were clearly taking notes on how mugshots are the answer to weightloss...

I have been aware of this for a while but I think moving to an open discussion just made it all worse. It seems so far from the SW philosophy according to the books etc.

Will be really interested to hear how others are finding this aspect of SW...

I think if SW ONLY promoted cooking from scratch then you'd have half the following you do now. Some people work long hours, coupled with children and other commitments so if there weren't convinient options then they wouldn't be able to follow SW.

The pasta n sauces, mugshots, savoury rices etc are only OPTIONS. If you want to cook from scratch for every meal then go ahead - it's what I do, but like nic, once in a while need something I can grab that is free & filling so that I don't grab junk or go without food completely.

    Hi everyone,

I was wondering where I can buy Scan Bran, I seen a discussion a few pages back but can't find it now :(. I looked in Tesco yesterday, next to the ryvita and stuff, next to the cereals and next to the baking stuff but couldn't see it anywhere.
Could anyone tell me where to look and what colour packaging it is in?

    Thanks in advance

PS gutted that I didn't lose last week despite being super good. Have started exercising so the consultant says sometimes it can be funny. Can only hope that next week will be a super weight loss.

Ask your consultant to get some in - they should sell it in class AFAIK. It can also be bought at Holland & Barrett and can also be bought on line - search for Scandinavian Crisp Bread. It is normally cheaper in class though!

I haven't had time to catch up with all of the posts but yours caught my eye. I have been attending a SW meeting almost every week since autumn 07.

There have been odd weeks where there has been no proper image therapy (for want of a better word), typically in the meeting after xmas / easter or when we have a stand in consultant. Then we just have a general chit chat. Particularly after xmas, a lot of members dread getting on the scales so just a general chit chat about how positive we are all feeling rather than dwelling on how many mince pies we munched and what the consequent weight gain has been.

I have never known products to be talked about in class to excess. We do share product news/new finds particularly if the item is a "free" item. And taster evenings always promote lots of comment.

The only company that I would guess supports SW is mullerlight because a lot of their recipe books features the yogurts in the recipes and I guess they pay a lot for their advertising in any event. also they are free :j

I personally don't like the mugshots but I agree that time is sometimes short and thus its good to know that there are certain things you can have that might not be as good for you as having fresh fruit/veg etc but are still an option that is available and with low syn value.anyway thats my take on things !

In other news, Flat eric's menu for today is :-

    GREEN

Breakfast - oats so simple porridge satchet served with sliced banana (HEB option for porridge) milk (hea option)
    Late Breakfast - red grapes
Snack : pack of Snack a Jacks (not sure if HEB option ? )6 odd syns if not HEB
Snack : Maltesers (treatsize) 4 syns

Lunch: Asda Chick Pea Dahl (free) served with chives, mixed salad leaves and parmesan (unmeasured but small amount) HEA
    fresh pineapple

Tea: undecided but will have to be simple and quick. Might be jackets ?
possibly served with Ainsley Harriot Lentil Dahl (Free on green)

In more news, I bought some treatsize buttons today only to find that the machine must have gone a bit wrong as some of the packs are full to bursting thus will be much more than the 4 syns they are meant to be :rotfl:

    They're a penny cheaper in Holland & Barrett ;)
