Does it actually have to be on the plate?
My son is making pasta salad on fri (wf pasta, ham, sweetcorn, pepper, apple) and was thinking of having it for tea on saturday, but couldn't think of anything to go with it that's superfree. Sooooo, if I eat that and then have lots of fruit (ie 1/3) does that work the same?
This has been quite a big debate among Consultants too. The main consensus of opinion seems to be that if you have the third of a plate of superfree afterwards (in the form of fruit for instance) then you really should leave a third of your main plate empty or the whole idea of EE is compromised.
Basically, EE is a way of exercising portion control (you have two thirds of calorific foods and one third of bulky, vlc food). If you fill your plate with the calorific foods and then have a bowl of fruit after, overall you're eating a lot (does this make sense???).
While we all know that SW advocate free food as free, but it still has calories and if you're struggling to lose, it makes sense to use some portion control to help to keep those calories down a little. At the beginning of your slimming campaign, it probably wouldn't make a difference, but as time goes on it will.
Hope this helpsI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Hi consultant,
sorry to jump in here but i think this is what may have messed me up. i did LL about 5 years ago for 3 months (all the weight back on now) and i know it's only my second week but loss seems slow (put on a pound this week)! I did try sw not long after LL and didn't lose either. Also have 5 month old bubba which hasn't helped!
My sis has lost a pound so far this week and has fallen off the wagon a few times but on the whole she does really well at SW (she's never done LL).
mind you just coming off * week so that won't have helped.
Panicking as I have a target of trying to lose 2 and a half stone by July/August for a wedding - does this seem too unrealistic at this rate?!
many many thanks
Lisa x
Don't panicMake sure you have lots of Speed and SuperSpeed foods (marked S and SS in the book). The are very low calorie but provide bulk so help to fill you up. Drink lots of water, especially try to have a large glass before meals (I really believe this helps).
You're right, * weeks don't help, be prepared for possible gains in those weeks then you won't be disappointed and lose the plot entirely.
Having a new baby is stressful in itself, so you can do without adding more stress by cutting back too far on your food. Make sure what you do have is good quality, lots of colourful foods (full of vitamins) with plenty of protein etc. Are you breastfeeding? If you are you can have extra HEs.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

Hi Consultant,
thanks for that. I'm not breastfeeding and will defo try more S and SS's! have been drinking about a litre and a half every day of water.
The only other thing I think may not help is possibly my portion sizes. Not as big as the first week (as that was a bit of a novelty)! but still really good size lunches and dinners. Whereas my sister will have smaller meals but constantly seems to snack and i don't (have always preferred the bigger dinners etc).
Have my second proper weigh-in on Wed so will panic after that if need be lol.
Thanks so much again

Hi, Annie does your daughter go to a group? If so then get her to show her food diaries to her consultant who will look at them and tell her where she is going wrong. or maybe she could join on here and post her food diaries for a week and we could have a look.
I always struggle to lose a lot with EE to be honest and prefer green/red days. I thinks its because I struggle to have 1/3 superfree foods so its less forgiving. A lot of people do lose with EE so it does work but I personally find it slower.
It could be something simple that she is having, for example someone on here a few pages back Karen I think was having a bottle of Lambrini thinking it was 12 syns per bottle but its closer to 52, these mistakes are easy to do.
If shes doing EE then make sure she is having one HEA and weighs it properly, one HEB also weighed.
Make sure she is having 1/3 superfree foods on her plate at lunch and dinner, she drinks plenty of water and writes everything down.
Have a variety of meals and healthy extras to keep it interesting. The mags are great for recipes.
If you sit down and read the books again, quite often it triggers something you didnt know about or forgotton.
If you stick to the plan it does work. If she has done red/green days before and lost on these plans then maybe she could try them for a bit with the odd EE day at the weekends so she can enjoy meat and potatoes/rice together.
Hi Nic
We both go to a group and has handed in food dairies and had them back saying there are good. she drinks lots of water. We were wondering if her matabilism(sp) has gone wrong with her being on drinks for a few months she is carrying on as she is desperate to lose. perhaps EE is not for her
thanks again Annie0 -
Hi No it wasnt her but having read the threads I thought I would repeat it as my daughter was having the same problem. Just a warning to anyone going on these diets that they mess up your system
thanks Annieconsultant31 wrote: »Hi Annie. Did your daughter post about this herself recently? I seem to remember a post from someone who'd been on a vlc diet, joined SW and wasn't doing too well and her Mum was!!
Anyway, whether it was your DD or not, the advice is the same, lol.....the problem with following a vlc diet is that they mess up your metabolism for a looooong time unfortunately. Your DD will get the benefit of a much healthier regime by following Food Optimising, but I honestly think as far as the weight loss is concerned, she will have to be patient and wait until her metabolism sorts itself out.0 -
Annie, It sounds like LL might be the problem then. Im sure it would sort itself out, but as consultant said she will have to be patient. Once she is in a routine and is eating superhealthy then her body will compsensate and metabolism will speed up.
Make sure she is eating plenty too, if shes been on Ll she will be used to being hungry so she may not eat as much as she should on SW.
If she is still doing EE then if she takes the above advice and makes sure her plate is 1/3 superfree or left empty and still have fruit etc for afters then it will work, it just might be abit slower than she wants. But if she stick to it then her metabolism will change soon then the weight will drop off.
Why dont you ask her to join us on here? I couldnt of lost anything if I didnt come on here everyday for support, advice, syn check and a good ol kick up the bum.:santa2::xmastree::santa2:0 -

Ill squeeze in another heb some where, might have a couple of slices of ham with my lunch.

Funny enough I have gone back to having the red and green days as I find that on EE I just eat more food. For example it is for me like having a red day but adding lots of carbs into it and knocking off a couple of HEB. I know we don't count calories but after a tot up I found that my calorie count on EE went up a lot:eek:
I do tend to go on EE on the weekend though.
Strangely in class yesterday our consultant said that it is not good for us to mix red and green and then EE days! I am sure that is the complete opposite of what they said before and she even went on to say that EE is the only plan they are really promoting now because red and green days "arn't really healthy"! Talk about your U turns:rotfl:
Marion:)
sticking to red and green thank you very much - at least I lose weight on them! When life hands you lemons, ask for tequilla and salt and give me a call!!!0
