    Hey can I join too?

I started SW last sunday. My step mum and step sister are going to the classes and I have had a v good look through all their books and have read this thread from start to finish.

I don't have very much weight to lose but really like the idea of SW, and the way you can syn things and be in control of what you eat but never be hungry.

My weigh in with myself is on a Monday morning.

L: hovis seeded bread (2 slices), grilled bacon with tom ketchup and v low fat spread (not sure how many syns are in the bread, but using up one of my Hex's and then adding the syns on top, if anyone can tell me that would be very much appreciated) (1syn tom ketchup and half for spread)

Hi and welcome to the thread. You'll no doubt get lots of help and tips from your family members who're going to group, but just in case it takes a while for them to get their heads round things, I thought I'd let you know that the seeded bread is not on the list and therefore cannot be taken as a HE (only food with the requisite amount of fibre is listed). The only syn value I can find (and it's not actually Hovis) says 4 syns per 28gms for seeded bread.

If you only have a little weight to lose, it may be quite slow to come off, but be patient and be happy with the fact that you're eating more healthily than before. Be sure to measure yourself too as often inches will reduce even though the pounds may not be coming off :)

Ooooh! My fiance's just come home with my late birthday present - an iPod Touch! I didn't think he'd get me anything as we can't afford it so I burst out crying.
That's it - if he can do that for me I can bloody well stick to SW! :D 100% from here on in! (Starting with a quorn curry & rice in a min ;) )

  • Hi, can I join too?

OH and I started going to Slimming world in late October last year, his idea and I was happy to go along with him. We had tried different diets in the past - including WW (very briefly) - but found that counting points/calories/fat etc or restricting large parts of our diet was not going to work for us. We love food, and I love to cook so we felt that this would be a good healthy eating plan rather than a diet.

Since we started, OH has lost 5st 7lbs and I have lost 2st 1lb :j. We have had the odd gain (me mostly) but never more than 1lb, and we have had several weekends where we have been fairly off plan . The flexible syns meant that we never felt that we had fallen off the wagon.

So far, so good. We have built up a small range of meals that we enjoy and try to eat as much free food as possible, we also try to avoid using syns. I want to develop our range of recipes, trying to keep it all free (+ HEs), home cooked and tasty, avoiding processed foods and ready meals. Ultimately, I want to show that it is possible to eat a varied and interesting diet on SW and keep losing weight (we want to lose another 12st between us). Hopefully my experiments will prove useful for others as well!
