  • I made a SW smoked salmon quiche. I used one onion, some frozen chopped mixed peppers, 1/2 a pack of Sainsbury's smoked salmon pieces, 1/2 tub of Tesco Light Choices Onion and Chive cottage cheese and two eggs.

I fried the onion and peppers in fry light and then mixed in the smoked salmon and then placed this mixture in the bottom of a dish.

Next I blended the cottage cheese with the egg until smooth and poured it over the veg and salmon mixture.

Baked in the oven at 180 for about 30 minutes until brown on top and set, it was delicious.

I think next time I will add a whole pack of smoked salmon but I only had half a pack to use up.

This recipe is free on an original day.

hi everyone! been AWOL for a long time, don't think i've even posted on this new thread before but i've been lurking! really trying hard to stick to the plan 100% as i'm constantly maintaining (better than losing but still...) or losing 1/2lb. :(

having a bit of a neutral day so far, need to go to the supermarket as i don't have anything to eat tonight!

B - Bran flakes, apple, plum, banana
L - Already had 2 Ten Calorie Soups from Morrisons ( 1/2 syn each) and some carrots, might take a wander to buy a little snack of sushi and a yoghurt...
    D - ??? :(

Hope you're all well, the thread is great for motivation and inspiration!

could anyone give me the lasgne recipe that is in the mag? I don't have it and I won't be able to get hold of it either (don't have it here) but Ido so love lasagne but the one I make is super high syn!! Thanks in advance.
Since WI,: yesterday was a good day

B: Yogurt and two kiwi fruit
L: Glass noodles, stir fry veg, pad thai seasoning (this was in a restaurant so no ideaof syn value but it was vegetarian)
D: Rice with stir fry veg and lemon sauce (2 syns). Yoghurt.

    Snacks apple, banana.
Syns two choc biscuits (8) one options hot choc (2)
Somehow I ended up not having any HEB and only the milk I had had in coffe and tea.

    Today:
    B: Yogurt and banana
L: SW savoury mince and baked potato. Cottage cheese, pinapple
    D: Tuna steaks, salad.

    HEA milk, HEB ?
Syns choccie biscuit and hot choc.

ANy ideas for a nice tuna recipe. They are frozen fresh steaks so usually I would just defrost and griddle them but I fancy something a bit different.

    HAve a good afternoon folks.

  • Hello everybody, i'm new to this forum but desperately need some help to get back on track, have been doing SW since Sept, lost nearly 2 stone for my dream xmas holiday to Thailand, i put on 9lbs during the 3 weeks i was away and just can't get my head back around it again any suggestions to get back on track?

Hi and welcome to the thread. You did really well to lose 2 stone before your holidays and although gaining 9lbs over 3 weeks is not perfect, lol, it's really not that bad either.

You do need to get back on track quickly though or that 9lbs will soon turn into a stone :(

Why did you join a group in the first place? Do those reasons still ring a bell with you?

What stops you having a 100% food optimising day? Find this out and make plans to avoid all the trigger areas (eg: seeing sweets/crisps when you pay for petrol etc).

Sit down and make a "for" and "against" list, with reasons you want to lose weight opposed to reasons why you can't do it. Seeing it in black and white can give you the urge to get going again.

Take it one day at a time. Promise yourself that you will follow plan for today, just today and think about tomorrow when it comes.

Sit down with a cuppa and an old magazine and pick out some tasty recipes to try. Shop for the ingredients and get cooking. Freeze some if you can so that there's no excuse for take-aways.

Hope some of this helps :)

Had a better day again so hopefully WI tomorrow won't be too bad.

My prob at the mo is that I am on steroids and due to my asthma being MEGA out of control any exercise over walking upstairs to the toilet (which leaves me like a 70 yr old smoker:() is a no no. The steroids increase my appitite hugely :eek:I was hoping for some suggestions for low syn nibbles.

I am living on fruit at the mo so I don't hit the remaining xmas sweets who are calling me from the top of the cupboard.

Also is there a limit as to the amount of fruit you can eat? I am having 6-7 pieces a day.

    B - yogurt and fruit
L - bacon beans and eggs on toast (how can you eat this and diet) HEb
D - fresh salmon mashed potato mixed veg
HEa - milk (for in tea and in mash)
3 apples 2 pears 1 banana some water melon
    gingerbread bic 1 1/2 syns
asda curley crisps 3 1/2 syns

mmmmm feel a bit peckish again
    what a surprise:rotfl::rotfl:

No limit on fruit so you can carry on with that.

A tasty low-syn pud is sugar-free jelly made up with just ½ pint water and mixed with a large pot of syn-free yoghurt. Whisk madly till it doubles in volume to make a lovely big bowl of mousse for 2 syns. You can always chop some fresh fruit onto it to bulk it out even more.

I particularly like a pot of 0% Greek yoghurt with 2 rounded teaspoons of lemon curd (2 syns) stirred through. It's very like lemon meringue and if you want to go the whole hog and add a crumbled meringue nest, it will be around 5 syns but well worth it IMO.

May I suggest giving the Christmas sweets away (or pop it in the freezer if it's chocolate).......out of sight and out of mind :)

    Hope these help.

Hi, can I jump in on this thread please?

Have been over on the Lose weight thread but have just found you! They are all doing well over there but I need some SW help!!

I've been doing SW for 5 weeks and have lost 15.5 lbs and am in need of some inspiration for different foods. Somedays I find myself eating the same things I had the day before, and it can get a bit boring.

I've 3 kids, 11 years, 20 months and nearly 4 months and guess I just haven't had time to go through the SW books for more ideas. So am looking forward to reading as much of this post and getting some new ideas!!:j

Hi and welcome to the thread.

Well done on your weight loss to date, you should be very proud of yourself for that.

I swear by the magazines for recipe inspiration, but if you go to a group, ask the Consultant if she can get you a little book called Delicious Days. It's full of daily menu plans and they're mostly easy, quick things which are ideal if you got a bundle of little ones.

You'll find quite a few recipes on this thread, but there are loads more here: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1948340&postcount=3 .......just scroll down past the WW ones.

Keep posting and let us know how you're getting on :)

Nice to have you back in the fold :)

Looking at your lunch, it seems bitty and not very filling :(

I think planning is the key to good weight loss, and then instead of wondering what to have till you're starving and just grab anything you fancy, you would have the ingredients for a substantial meal to hand.

Please don't think I'm picking at you, because I'm really not, I'm only trying to help. I seem to have inadvertantly upset someone yesterday :( and don't want to do it again, but I know from personal experience how hard it is to keep trying when you're maintaining week after week.

Spend some time one evening deciding what you will eat for each meal, each day, get the food in and stick to the plan for a full week. I'm sure you'll see a big difference and hopefully, that will get you back on the straight and narrow.

Welcome back Robpw2 - don't worry, there's no syns in Tiramisu if you enjoyed it :rotfl::rotfl:

ANy ideas for a nice tuna recipe. They are frozen fresh steaks so usually I would just defrost and griddle them but I fancy something a bit different.

    HAve a good afternoon folks.

This is the lasagne recipe I use:-

    Lasagne
    (Syn-free 1 Healthy Extra)

    8-12 Lasagne Sheets
    1 Large Onion, finely chopped
    3 Garlic Cloves, crushed
    Fry Light
1 Large Pack of Fresh Quorn™ Mince
    2 x 400g Tin of Tomatoes
    Parsley and Oregano
1 x 200g Pot of Very Low Fat Natural Yogurt
28g per person grated Cheddar Cheese (using Healthy Extras)
    2 Egg Yolks & 1 Whole Egg
    A Pinch of Nutmeg
    Black Pepper
    Pinch of sweetener

    • Set the oven to 190˚C/ Fan assisted 170˚C
    • Spray a large frying pan with fry light and fry the onions and garlic.until softened
    • Add the Quorn mince and tomatoes and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and cover and simmer for 15 – 20 minutes
    • Remove from the heat and add the seasoning and sweetener
    • Lightly spray a lasagne dish with fry light.
    • Line the bottom with lasagne sheets. Cover with some of the mixture and layer the lasagne sheets on top
    • Repeat, ending with the lasagne sheets
    • In a bowl mix together the yogurt, grated cheese, eggs, nutmeg and seasoning.
    • Pour this over the lasagne.
    • Bake for 20 – 30 minutes or until brown

I love tuna, it can be so versatile. Here's a great list of recipe ideas:-

Tuna melt – Pile heaps of tuna canned in brine onto your Healthy Extra allowance of bread with a twist of black pepper. Top with 42g mozzarella or reduced fat cheddar and melt under a hot grill. Add spring onions or peppers for a tasty finale!

Tuna dip – Great for spreading onto Ryvita or with lots of crunchy carrots, celery, pepper and cauliflower florets as your dipping tools! Simply place tuna, very low fat cottage cheese, fromage frais, chives, dill and lemon juice into a blender then whiz until smooth. Chill in the fridge until you’re ready to get dippy!

Tuna jacket – A quick and easy lunch! For a Green choice mix 113g tuna with very low fat fromage frais and sweetcorn to top your spud, on Original use a 227g potato as your base for tons of tuna and salad.

Tuna Niçoise salad – The Syns in this salad are usually high due to the oily dressing – you can make it entirely Free by using fat-free vinaigrette as your dressing! Top some cos lettuce with cooked green beans, sliced tomatoes and boiled eggs. Pile on lots of tuna and drizzle with dressing. If you fancy it add some black olives (7 olives are 1 Syn).

    Tuna steak
If you’ve never tried this fabulously Free fish in the form of steak – you don’t know what you’re missing! Marvellously meaty in texture, it tastes great with a vegetable stir fry and a dash of soy sauce. Alternatively, seared tuna topped with home-made salsa (tomatoes, onion, pepper, garlic, lemon juice and coriander) makes a delicious dinner.

Tuna fishcake – These little cakes are a top tuna treat on Green! Scoop out the insides from a baked potato and mash it together with a little very low fat fromage frais, mustard powder, white wine vinegar, onion, gherkins and parsley. Season with salt and pepper, then stir in a 113g can of tuna (Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice). Shape into patties and spray with Fry Light on both sides. Grill under a preheated hot grill for about 4 minutes each side, until crisp and golden. Filling fishcakes for Free!

Tuna and cottage cheese – When you want a Free snack in five minutes flat, or need something to take to work for a mid-morning munch, this does the job perfectly. All you need is a large tub of very low fat cottage cheese and a can of tuna in brine – mix together and voila! You can add as many chopped Free vegetables as you want – cucumber, tomatoes, peppers and spring onions all work brilliantly!

Tuna and cucumber wedges – Mix a little horseradish sauce (1 Syn per level tbsp) and very low fat fromage frais together in a bowl. Add some tuna canned in brine, and chopped spring onions, and then pile into cucumber that’s been cut into wedges (with the seeds scooped out). Great for a party bite or as a dinner party starter!
