Has the locksmith fitted our lock wrong?!

The confusion I have in MY mind was caused by YOUR equivocal post. I politely asked you to help dispel that confusion. If you don't want to address my questions then thats fine. You only have to say so and I'll form my own conclusions. Its post #27 once again.
Well, I'm not jplocksmith, and I'm not a locksmith, but my answer to your question is: yes, that is exactly what the lock is meant to do: it snaps on attack. There are a number of models on the market that do that, but if you believe the youtube footage, a number of them are tantamount to useless - and if you believe the advertising blurb for the ABS one (and the video on youtube) then it is a darn site harder to get past once it is broken. I'm inclined to believe it
I assume that jplocksmith is suggesting that the thief may not get in to your house, but you will still have a damaged door. And by having it protrude more than it needs to, a thief might be more tempted to have a go than they otherwise would. I reckon that any thief suitably equipped would whip your handle off, and then they have more than 5mm anyway, but that's just my non-criminal non-locksmith opinion.

If your lock is more than 3mm,, I will come round and snap it for you if you want me to, free of charge...
however i will Charge to put in a new lock..:D
If your lock sticks out 3mm or less, and it's not an Avocet ABS, i will come around, snap the handle and the cylinder and be in your house in no time! Please do not try to mislead people that if your cylinder of any type is safe if it is less than 3mm. If it's not an ABS then it isn't snap secure.
All cylinders irrellevent of make come in 5mm increments.
Door profiles range from 58 to 72mm think in pvc and 44mm to 58mm in timber or composite.
Door handle thickness range from 8mm to 14mm approx.
The position of the fitting groove (the centre of the cylinder) can be in a variety of different position.
So if your are only changing the cylinder, and they only come in 5mm increments, it depends on where the fitting groove of the door is positioned, the thickness of the door and the handle thickness as to how much of the cylinder then protrudes.
Even if it is perfectly flush, it is easy to snap the handle and the cylinder and gain entry. If you are concerned about the temptation to a burglar of the protrusion it is worth looking at the thickness of your door handle and trying to find a thicker or thinner one to eliminate the protrusion.
Although in my time in research (over three months with west yorkshire police), cylinder snapping is not dependent on less than 3mm protrusion. Cylinders that sit flush are snapped with alarming regularity.
Burglars do not care about damaging your door or handle and aim to get in as quick as possible, it is possible to gain entry by snapping both the handle and the cylinder in less than 20 seconds!0
