Has the locksmith fitted our lock wrong?!

"we've had this done this week by a security firm that the police recommended"
Wonder why they were recommended by the police as like previous posters have already said, they have fitted the wrong length lock to your door.
Get them back out to do it correctly, or better still get the correct length lock and do it yourself.
It is not difficult, and sounds like the company were a bunch of cowboys anyway.
Might also be worth informing the local police that their recommended company are not fitting the locks correctly.0 -
If the barrel is not flush on the outside a smack with a small sledge hammer will break the barrel in two and the door car be opened

There are two easy ways how to 'open' cylinder without key. One break it - you can do it when cylinder is to long and second drill it. Standard, cheap cylinder you can drill in 1-2 minutes and break it in 15 seconds. If the cylinder is more secure it will extend 'break in' time only.
Of course there are other ways to open cylinder but it doesn't mater
Cylinder should be flush as it has been told. Call this policeman and show him 'recommended company' job :cool:0 -
Yes I agree in general but did you miss the point where the OP said that they had had "snapsafe" locks fitted?
Cheers
But the OP mentions they have used in effect lock on both doors with one being flush and one protuding. So I would have thought that one of the locks is fitted backwards, if the one that is fitted backwards is the one protruding then the snap safe design is nulified.0 -
The snap safe can be rendered useless if you can see the snap line and at 8mm you will be able to see it.
what has happened here is some numpty has bought a load of locks probably 40mm/40mm in a vain attemt that one size fits all and why bother carrying loads of stock. I would inform the police that he has just balls up your security, also ask him to put it right or get your money back.0 -
This is the lock we have had fitted: http://www.avocet-hardware.co.uk/abs/ The security company we used are a social enterprise, who are partly funded with a government grant. West Yorks police use them to secure houses that have been burgled. We haven't actually paid for the work yet as we are awaiting an invoice.
I've just watched the videos on the manufacturer's website and it seems to be able to withstand a sustained attack with a lump hammer, but I guess theirs was properly fitted!
I've taken a couple of photos of the lock, it's on a door that opens outwards:0 -

Please would you mind having a look at the photos I posted and let me know if you think the lock still needs replacing? As I mentioned, we haven't actually paid yet so if it does need doing I can get them to come back before we pay. When he installed it the man did point out it was sticking out but he said it wouldn't be a problem.0
