  • Morning all!
Sorry, been AWOL for a few days-I've been trawling through holiday apartment letting sites for our hols in Tenerife. Ended up with a very expensive one(mums paying!) that looks luxurious, so flights are booked and I have 13 weeks to lose as much weight as possible. My sister is going to come over from Canada and go with us which is great because it'll be almost 3 years since we saw her.
Done lots of batch cooking this week-may have to buy another freezer the rate I'm going. However as now I'll be trying to save more for the holiday I hope to have empty freezers by april.
Hope everyone is good and has a good day,
Sunnygirl-thinking about you and yours-it sounds like it was a peaceful ending which is, I suppose, all any of us would ask for.
    Hugs,

Morning all. Light dusting of fresh snow here, nothing to write home about.

I had booked leave today for the Boots 75% sale which has subsequently been postponed.. Never mind, will enjoy the extra day off work as going to visit a friend, and I still have leave left that needs using so it wasn't a waste!

So, am off to sunny Milton Keynes today. Am going to pop into Waitrose whilst there (got some coupons to use), and may pop into the big Sainsburys to.

Also got a friend coming round tonight for a catch up.

Tea for kids will be french stick pizzas with the reduced french stick I got last night for 13p, and something to go with it possibly wedges. Not sure what I'm having yet!

    Have a good day.

    Morning peeps

freezing cold here this morning, i ventured out earlier to put some salt down on the end of the drive and the footpath and the few minutes that i was out there were enough.

Oh my goodness I can not believe it - the whole of the city seemingly is covered in black ice!:eek::eek:

The reason that i went out with the salt is that DH rang on his way to w*rk to let me know how bad it was, i could hardly believe it when i saw it. Hope that the temperatures rise and get rid of it as there will be lots of accidents otherwise so remember to be extra careful everyone.

I`m going to enjoy another cuppa and then defrost the bird table and feed the little feathered friends and then i shall set off with the houndies for their walk.

Plans today are to update the freezer inventory and make potato and leek soup, the ironing may get done later but i shall have a sort through the pile first to see if any can go away without needing to be done. I also need to make some pizza bases for later in the week when time will be a bit short - they can be frozen and whipped out and topped on the day.

Meanmarie - We have had a couple of nibblers in our time and have found that the best thing was to say no very loudly and firmly with a wagging finger :rotfl: when the houndie gets used to it and learns that nibbling is wrong this results in "no ears" and a pooch that dosen`t nibble lol. We had two that were people nibblers but it really was only play nibbling and it was only us in the house that they did it to. When they started getting their new sharp pointy teeth though it had to be stopped but it was still funny to see their faces when we were teaching them that it was wrong :D Good luck with Kerry.

Have a good day everyone, keep safe and warm.

DS was feeling a bit better today so wanted to go to school. All ready when another mum texted me to say it was shut! I hadnt even checked website as there has been no more snow and it has been open all last week and this.....apparently it is due to severe black ice...there have been several crashes next on roads next to school and roads are closed to the public here:eek:. Sistercas hope it is ok where you are in Sheffield...I am crookes/lydgate end.
So another day at home beckons. I now have DS`s cold:rolleyes: and he has been up crying with it during night so I am tired.
Feeling a bit fed up today......OH`s van broke down last night, got stuck between 2 gears and jammed solid. The van is so old it costs more to keep it going than it is worth but we cant afford another one.....obviously without the van he cant work so not sure where we are with this really.
I dont think Sainsbugs will be delivering today for 2nd week on trot so will have to sort another delivery for later in week as no way can DS go in supermarkets:eek:
Hope you are all safe and take care out there

 at the black ice problems

I did not want to get up this morning:confused: just had cereal and need to head for shower. Just had phone call canceling my app. at dentist (only a check-up) so now need to rethink day.
Probably should do a 'larder check' and go and do a proper food shop.

  • Another 3-4 inches of snow for us. Just when it was starting to thaw, too.

Lisa26 – so sorry to hear about your poor baby. (((hugs)))
Toochoosey – my OH is also a carpenter. We never seem to get anything done around the house though!
Meanmarie – if your puppy is mouthing you (as is quite common in play), the best way we found was to yelp / say “ow” loudly (the more high pitched the better), then turn away for a few seconds (stopping the game). This is what pup’s littermates would have done. It does take a while to sink in, though! Our pup is 10 months old now and it was about 6 weeks ago that we realised he wasn’t doing it anymore. He was slower though, as the litter was dumped and subsequently split up by the time they were 5 weeks old, so they didn’t learn as much as they should have done before we took him.
SunnyGirl – Our Puppy-Dog had a fabulous recall until he hit adolescence, now he does as he pleases! Neutering tomorrow though, which some say might help. We go armed with HM Chicken Liver Cake…

Well, we had a bit of excitement last night. OH opened the door to take Puppy-Dog out for his before bed constitutional, and came face to face with another, almost identical, black labrador (he even had the same collar), who decided to make himself at home! Our Puppy-Dog thought this was great fun, and proceeded to barrel around the house trying to play with him, with us in pursuit trying to catch hold of the intruder so we could try and track down an owner! I eventually rugby tackled ours whilst OH got hold of the other dog and we managed to get a mobile number off of the collar. No answer. So we played with him for a bit (he seemed totally unfazed by the turn of events!), until we noticed somebody wondering around in the street looking lost. Popped out to ask if he’d lost a dog and he said that he had, so dog and owner were reunited.

I made some Lemon Drizzle Muffins with some whoopsied lemons last night. They are very yummy, and very messy…:p

Hi all just popped back to say that there is no way that i`m venturing outside just yet, there are people all over our road on their bums and even those with sturdy walking boots can`t stand up
DH rang to tell me that people couldn`t get on the bus as they couldn`t let go of the bus stop

I can`t even get down the garden to feed the birds atm, i`ve put the thermometer outside and will check it shortly - if its above freezing then i`ll throw water down our back steps to allow me to get down them and then sweep and salt them, i`m trying to be sparing with the salt as i`ve hardly any left.

Noahs penniless mummy - Anyone in Sheffield may find this thread helpful http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=538893 there is a lot more info dotted about on the site regarding the roads and weather etc.

Seems like there are many places with the same problem.

I`m off for a third cuppa and then i`ll check the thermometer and decide what gto do, looks like the hounds won`t be out until much later so i`ll have one stir crazy younger hound who has just skidded in the garden  and little oldie who is snoring away on his bed.

    Be very careful peeps.
    Catch up later.
