*Peeks in*
Afternoon all....I'm forever lurking on MSE and recently been lurking alot around OS so I thought I'd say hello
I got a new toy today :j bought a slow cooker. Looking forward to using it...I just hope DH and DS will eat what I make! (well DS isn't much of a problem as he's only six months and will give anything a go...DH is a bit more fussy!)

Well Im just back from taking DD to her exam! The roads were terrible and DD kept chuntering on about being too young to die!!! However I got her there and back and am now absolutely exhausted as this it not something I do everyday. Im pleased we made it and she did ok in her exam. She now has a reader and uses a word processor with extra time and it makes such a difference. How she managed to pass her GCSE without any help...I dont know but she did. Anyway fingers crossed and hope Tired Mum DD did ok too!
In my absence the boys had been sent home as snow continued to fall. DS3 texted to say all hell was let loose in his classroom as there was not enough teachers to cover. I phoned the school who were clearly struggling to let them know and they said they would send someone to sort them but they were totally unsupervised. The school should have shut earlier but i guess they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't! We shall see what happens tomorrow. When I got in it looked like there had been a troop of youngsters in my kitchen and my stash of pizzas and cakes had gone....crumbs everywhere.
Whilst waiting for DD I went to my parents. I was very worried about them over the weekend as they live very frugally and dont heat their house very well. I dont know if you have seen in the news about that couple in Northampton who died in their house of hypothermia? Well they live quite close to parents and mine were very shocked about it. Anyway I said that this could happen to them and i think I got my message home.
I think a very quick tea. Im hoping my cleaner will come tomorrow as my house is in a terrible state.
xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Molly, my place is in a terrible state too, would your cleaner call by on her way home?
Zippychick - I was very careful in Tesco, the cashier packed all the stuff in small amounts so I could lift them and then I slept for an hour before I went out again to get ds from school. I had a really bad time with the needle as it went in my right hand. Normally it's all bearable, but this was a difficult one. Still feels a bit bruised now and both arms ache. I don't really mind (now!) as when this happened a couple of weeks ago I had a good couple of days following. I don't think he's going to carry on, not working as well as it should so not deemed viable I guess.
I think we are going to have an easy meal tonight, there's a tortilla type of thing in the morrisons mag."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

NMP / sunnyday hope you are ok , I fell this morning
just going out of the front door  didnt hurt myself , but I couldnt get down the 2 steps to the path as it was too icy, DH had to help me and then I had to haul myself up the road using car door handles and walls  I have never seen such bad ice before. I saw about 15 people fall. one of the doctors I work for fell and really hurt himself. the northern general sent out a message saying they were exceeding capacity and the ambulance service was struggling to cope with demand
NPM i live at stannington so not far from you .
Sunnyday where are you exactly?
I hope everyone is coping with all the bad weather , sounds pretty rough what with snow and ice all over
DD1 slipped getting out of the car at school and slipped under the car :eek: DH said all he could see was a pile of snow and a bum crack!:rotfl: shes fine though thankfully
(((hugs))) to anyone who needs
keep warm and safe everyone0 -
Hugs to anniestar and nice to hear from her :T
Snow and ice looks as if it is turning to slush here.
DD(16) needs new boots as hers are broken at the heel so ordered some from Amazon today. She probably won't like them but they are Sketchers and half price in the sale so worth a try. At least she will have something if snow etc returns.
Felt odd all day yesterday and then was violently sick last night so keeping off food today. Ironic that I have been sticking to eating healthily for about ten weeks
We need to be at York hospital early tomorrow for a blood test so fingers crossed that driving conditions are better.
DH has been sorting out last minute things before he finishes work at the end of the month. He has ordered a car to replace the company one - should be cheaper to run, insure and tax as well. He is getting the internet bill sorted out as well and checking paperwork.
I can't face the sight or smell of food so DH has cooked potato and leek soup for tea for him and dds.
Hugs to everyone and nice to see new faces.
Hester
Not surprised you gave a short rejoinder - they were lucky you didn't chuck something at them!!"This site is addictive!"

Really late getting on here today but had a good day, hello all and I hope you've all had peaceful and productive days
Finally got out this afternoon after being snowed in for a whole week!! Just drove to the local shop to make sure the lane was clear but it was such bliss to know I can get out now :j:j:j:j
There were loads of yellow sticker stuff in the shop so we've just had a lovely picky tea of all the stuff I dont usually buy:D
Got the girls stuff all ready for school tomorrow so we are having a quiet evening snuggled up in front of the telly.
Hugs to you all, Sally :grinheart:snow_laug HM Christmas 2010

http://i1013.photobucket.com/albums/af252/toots43/Bootroom.jpg I tried to post the whole file don't think its worked......
This should be a link to the cottage. There is work to be done, the boot room has been done with tounge and groove and then varnished.....that will come off and I'll use either white or magnolia paint, give it a new England look. The bathroom also has tounge and groove so it will get the same treatment. Tiles in the kitchen are white, but very greasy.....bathroom tiles need scraping out and regrouting, the bath re-sealing. Most of the rest is cosmetic.
Any one want to buy a stripped pine double wardrobe??????
We spoke about the garden and we have been given permission to put 3 deep beds in an adjacent paddock to grow veg. We will have to fence it off and fence the beds against the rabbits.......we might also keep chickens, but they too will have to be protected. Plenty of free horse manure, 3 horses in residence......Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -

deeply envious of the manure, and go for it with the chickens. Initial set up costs are painful but they quickly pay for themselves.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
Hello lovely ladies! And gentile gents (if any are reading)!
Hope everyone is well, we had loads more snow today, I fell off the curb on the way home, luckily recovered myself and didn't actually fall over...
Had a busy day at work, due to the weather we closed at 5 which is unfortunate as I was hoping to stay on to get things done. Hopefully I'll be getting a lift with a colleague tomorrow morning at around 7 which means I'll have to be up early  I don't do mornings! I'm rarely out of bed before 7.30...
One of my colleagues slipped over on her way to work, went home to get changed and then came in. She didn't tell us that she'd banged her head until someone commented that she looked like she had a hangover... It turned out that she was having trouble focussing on her screen, but didn't tell anyone as she didn't want to go to hospital and have any time off, bless her. So one of my other colleagues took her to A&E, she was seen and sent home to rest, hopefully she'll be ok.
Haven't read through yet as only recently got in despite the office closing early, the bus journey was horrific and squashed, people kept getting on and there was no room for them and all the driver did was play that irritating message asking people to 'please move down inside the bus' There's nowhere to move to!!
Anyway, I'm going to try and watch my crochet DVD tonight... I keep putting it off because I've got other things to do, I need to just sit down and enjoy the challenge
Zippychick: my aunt has the same machine (I think) and won't let anyone else near it. She thinks it's good, she did classes too and actually got the instructor to come round and make sure she had it all set up properly
Anyway, take care all, positive thoughts and huggles
Caroline xx**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

Oooooh! feeling nicely warm again, now I've had something to eat. I can really recommend the Pasta Frittata recipe from the Morrison's mag this month. I added a small tin of corn and some black forest ham lurking in the fridge. We've had it tonight and I deliberately made extra so that there is some left for ds's pack up. He can warm it up in the 6th form microwave!
Does anyone know what the set up costs for keeping chooks is? Do they like pulses? I have just unpacked the rest of the shopping. I got a kg kidney beanss, kg of canellini and a 2kg of black eyed. There is already a kg of chickpeas in the cupboard!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"
