"I am truly sorry to hear that but you of all people should understand the issues and have shown no compassion to those in similar circumstances and have used little evidence to support your arguments.
And from the sounds of that you should be on DLA.
It is my husband not me that has illnesses. And strangely enough he would be absolutely horrified if anyone suggested he is 'disabled'. He feels that disabled is a word used to describe some fairly trivial ailments that it is losing the impact it once had He is over 65 so no DLA, although the mobility element would be useful.
I do have compassion and understanding but all you appear to want to do is take from those you see as 'undeserving' for whatever reason and give to yourselves who MUST be deserving because you see yourselves as disabled.
The money in the pot needs to be shared out and best value obtained. Means testing is expensive and the government have targeted a group of people who they feel need the £5 a week extra most. This group happen to be pensioners.0 -

He cannot even make himself a sandwich as his hands are so swollen and useless. Needs his food cut up. Cannot turn himself over in bed so chooses to stay in an armchair all night, with the heating on. He is also profoundly deaf.
Please do not try to tell me what it is like to be disabled, i live with it 24/7 and without DLA.
We have been contributors to the economy all our working lives (90 years between us) and it is very sad that we are begrudged a miserly £250 a year.
That says it all, £250.00 may be a miserly amount to you, its a kings ransom to some of us.
If your husband won't admit he is disabled for whatever reason, i fall to see how you find this forum helpful, as it is basically aimed at the disabled (and carers) and money.
As you tell us you don't claim any disability benefits what help can you possibly get from here, you only seem to get yourself wound up by corresponding with us money grabbing, greedy, less abled folk0 -

If it was £250 a week I would agree it is a lot of money but it is £250 a year.....£5 a week. Not even enough to cover a MacDonalds or a trip to the cinema. I bet you could all make economies to cover £5 a week.
My grandson gets over £2000 a year to spend on computer games plus Incapacity Benefit because he is assessed as being disabled. I would prefer to have his share of the benefit pot rather than our £250.0 -
This thread is going off course and is reading as something a DM reader or journo would love. A load of disabled people who are doing nothing but whine and moan about what they cant do instead of being proud of what they can. Moaning about what they believe is owed to them and that they are more deserving 'because' they are disabled and should be given more than other equally or more socially disadvantaged groups. Very sad0

Well thats up to him, i am sure he is vastly in the minority as most of us have families to look after. I was, before i became disabled, in a very poorly paid job, so i too have been a tax payer and put my "bit" in the pot and i am not saying for a minute that it shouldn't be given to those in need but pensioners out there are getting it that have 1000's upon 1000's of pounds in the bank, how can that be fair? and if you think its so easy to cut back by £5.00 a week then you obviously don't know what its like for £5.00 to make a difference whether you eat at the end of the week or not0 -

i think you will find theres a non disabled person doing a fair bit of input too0 -
reading some of the posts here, i am truely ashamed to be disabled
when all it comes down to is who gets what, we should get more then someone else.
for goodness sake, there are people starving and hungry without anything like those in Haiti.
Thank goodness i am bedridden and have very little to do with the outside world if this is what it is llike

I don't think there is a single person on here that would begrudge anyone over 60 the WFP but i do think that it should be means tested. It wouldn't be hard to administer, surely it could be simply added to the pension credit or income support. I can't believe that its not done because of cost, the money that would be saved would easily pay for it and more. The ones i do begrudge are the ones that £250.00 would go into the bank without them even realising it just to keep the other thousands of pounds company.
ii agree also were some one is over 60 and gets either DLA or attendance allowance then they should not get wfa if the dla/aa includes money for heating.0 -

But everyone is stating extremely vociferously that DLA is not for heating. You really can't have it both ways.0 -
