If the person is on Income support with severe disability premium due to having no/low other income then they do get the CWP of £25. I get it, but don't expect it as a right. I also get DLA and feel that if the blanket coverage of WFA was rolled out it'd be unsustainable as DLA is not awarded with regard to income. I don't begrudge the pensioners a little extra as they often really do need it for the winter.
I'm a disabled person and personally do not feel "entitled" to anything much - what I get I am lucky to get when compared to other places in the world! My disability is bad luck. Where I live, and the support that I get, is supremely good luck compared to where my Fiance is from where there is no welfare system at all apart from free very very basic schooling and medical care.
I feel this petition is not very well thought-out - who pays? Where is the cut-off point? Would it just be DLA recipients with high-rate physical issues or others also? I feel it's unaffordable.0 -

Yes, I get the SDP, so also get the cold weather payments.
Agree joolz that if the WFA was also given to everyone with a qualifying disability benefit, it would be unsustainable.
Then, of course, say if the qualifying benefit was those with HRC DLA, those on middle or low care, wouldn't think it's fair. If everyone on DLA received it, what about those with a disability premium, but not DLA? There has to be a cut off point with regards many benefits, including the WFA.There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Pipkin, if it had to be limited, I would think it would be by mobility component, not care component... Most of the people who need it most are in receipt of at least LRM.Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. Do you need more?0

LRM would also include children with behavioural problems, people with mental health problems, etc etc etc. Do you see where I'm coming from?
Who are impaired in mobility because they can't go out, and would still mostly need to be kept warm. I do see where you're coming from, but I also think WFA should be means-tested to a point - there are many pensioners who get it who could afford to pay for their heat without it (I know half a dozen households who would qualify for that!) and not, for example, given to those people who, while ordinarily resident here for tax purposes, only spend the bare minimum of time here and go to warmer countries for the winter - which it currently is, when there are people who need it more and can afford it less.Homosexual, Unitarian, young, British, female, disabled. But they might need it too.
I have alower than normal body temperature (around 34.5 / 35.5c) and do really feel the cold - even in the summer. WFA would come in so useful for me.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Over the last few weeks I have read threads where self employed aren't entitled to JSA so they aren't happy.
Low income families who can't get the free lappy or a CWP.
The line has to be drawn somewhere*SIGH*0 -
I don't think it matters which way it is done there will always be a section of society who don't agree with it. It is the way with every other benefit some do okay, some don't.

Agree here DX2.
Whatever way the WFA was worked out, someone wouldn't meet the criteria but feel that they should get it because of their health problems.
If the criteria changed and more disabled people received it, then the money would have to come from somewhere, but it isn't a bottomless purse.
Yes, it is difficult when people have to keep the heat on [I don't think I've turned mine of in days] and I can understand the frustration people have, knowing that the WFA would raise them from fuel poverty, however there has to be a line drawn where people don't meet the criteria. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. Why should some people on benefits get extra payments for fuel while people who are on benefits because they are ill don't?? It doesn't make sense.
I am sick of all these griping, jealous, 'disgruntled taxpayers' who whine and whinge about how 'greedy' people on benefits are.
If you see yourself as having disabilities but struggling to work then bully for you!
Why don't you have a think about the huge amounts of 'taxpayers money' being spent on war, dodgy politicians and the inflated salaries of the criminal mismanagers of the NHS instead of turning your ignorance on those scrabbling to live on relative pittances???"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."
