DLA doesn't go far. How hard is that to understand?
We're NOT "greedy" or "jealous". Most of us do need the WFP to help pay for extra heating.
I don't think anyone has come across as greedy or jealous either, sh.There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -
krisskross wrote: »Completely unaffordable as per DX2's post. Is that compelling enough for you? The magic money pot does have a bottom and there are going to be a lot of people realising this when the next government has to tackle the huge debt the country is in.
If you target money to those who need it not a universal policy of age then its affordable, its common sense.
Tell you what Kris you have my disability you sit in a house that is closing in on just 5 Celsius day in day out having to wear a hat and gloves just to keep warm, having to go to the doctors almost weekly this time of year because your immune system cannot cope, having infections setting in, severe migranes and violent sickness, cannot go out without having a mild case of hypothermia. All because we cannot afford to put up the heating as per government advice, oh the same advice that says that we will help those in need.
See how you cope with all that and be a carrer of a disabled person who cannot have the wfp because of age think you would change your closed off stance.
You say there is not a bottomless pit , yes we all know that but there are so many failed government quangos, think tanks and other wasteful goverment intitavtives leaking cash its shocking.
If it was up to people like you we would just hide in a corner except our lot and never leave the house nor play any part in society and get sicker and sicker, its about time people started raising their voices on this matter because it is so so clearly wrong.
When will people realize what the government is doing is discriminating against people and the wider picture of the government not doing enough for disabled people and families. If people cannot see this they need their heads examined.
"So the Minister of State for Works and Pensions thinks that DLA is for extra heating costs. Is he wrong as well? May have been a few years ago, but can't see that anything has changed in what the payments are supposed to cover. The Government web site cannot possibly cover every little thing that DLA could or would be used for. Surely all disabled people are different and therefore need to spend the DLA on different things."
So i see you have bought the government spin and what is spoon fed at you, you know the governement has constantly undermined disabled people and their is worse to come and a lot of disabled people and their familes are about to be strenched to the limit and I fear it will push people over the edge.
The goverments stance on fuel payments is not fit for purpose and needs a radical overhaul before the number of people passing away who are vunerable due to fuel poverty increases .With 49% more people are passing away than 2007-2008 due to the cold weather and the links to winter fuel poverty it shows the policy isnt working.
More well off people should pay and less well of people get their concessions its so simply even a 5 year old could see it.0 -
I don't think there is a single person on here that would begrudge anyone over 60 the WFP but i do think that it should be means tested. It wouldn't be hard to administer, surely it could be simply added to the pension credit or income support. I can't believe that its not done because of cost, the money that would be saved would easily pay for it and more. The ones i do begrudge are the ones that £250.00 would go into the bank without them even realising it just to keep the other thousands of pounds company.0

I AM the carer of a disabled person. My husband needs a wheelchair to get out so hasn't been out for days. He needs help washing and dressing. He cannot even make himself a sandwich as his hands are so swollen and useless. Needs his food cut up. Cannot turn himself over in bed so chooses to stay in an armchair all night, with the heating on. He is also profoundly deaf.
Please do not try to tell me what it is like to be disabled, i live with it 24/7 and without DLA.
We have been contributors to the economy all our working lives (90 years between us) and it is very sad that we are begrudged a miserly £250 a year.0 -
This is what I been saying
Target those who are extremely disabled and or suffer from acute cold this can easily be proven via a doctor, care worker etc), maybe even give some vulnerable pensioners more and cut those who have lots of savings etc it should be means tested but there should be provision for those who need help with forms also
Cut child benefits to those who are also wealthy, now I am no expert on ins and outs of this but this would at least make some money available to some of those abovefedupconsumer wrote: »If you target money to those who need it not a universal policy of age then its affordable, its common sense.krisskross wrote: »I AM the carer of a disabled person. A bit of common sense for the Government! I'm sure we can think of lots more."All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke)

No they do not
It does not say that on directgov web site and disabled charities have been campaigned for help why should WFP be targeted for one section of the community when it discriminates another who some may also be in need
So sorry I dont agree with you and I know what you are referring about

"How many more times? The disabled DO get help with heating, it is called DLA"
How many more times do people have to post that link from the DWP site that bears no mention to heating the government are explicit in saying it and use the excuse that DLA is for heating contradicting their own policy.

I am truly sorry to hear that but you of all people should understand the issues and have shown no compassion to those in similar circumstances and have used little evidence to support your arguments.
And from the sounds of that you should be on DLA.0
