That was blacklabel one person. I have to say it was not the level of cleanliness nor had the correct gym equiptment to warrent that price. They did have free towels but all in all I'd never pay that much for that gym!0 -
I was a member of Fitspace in Belfast for a few months last year (on a summer promotion). It was previously Fitness First. It's not plush by any means but there's lots of equipment and I was able to use most of it without waiting. If you are not interested in being greeted by your first name by a receptionist and you don't want a pool or classes, then this could be the gym for you. An 18 month contract works out at £10 per month. In my view it is great value for money.0

I went into Fitness First Cottons at London Bridge (which is Black Label) on Friday with a free guest pass downloaded from their website. They didn't insist on giving me the whole hard sell or induction but they did mention that they had an offer on membership at the moment for £52 per month (which entitles you to use any Fitness First in the UK. This was on a 4 month contract (which would then be rolling with a months notice to leave). I'm not sure how long it's on offer for but might be worth checking out as I noticed other people were quoting £70/£80 for Fitness First membership in London...0

Oh - and if you wanted really short term membership or to trial it, you can go to thegymwebsite dot co dot uk and get a 2 week pass using code discount25 you can get 2 week membership at Fitness First, Black Label, London for just under £27... (cheaper for other locations) although then you can only use the club you register for.0

My pruhealth membership with Virgin Active is going up next month to £52
I have a few other options but I like the Gym I currently visit.
Anyone have any experience with any of the following?
Fitness First (Central London, Next to Oxford Street)
LA Fitness (Croydon, Victoria or Piccadilly).
Are they any good?
It would be great if someone was with Virgin before, and could compare.
Thanks,0 -

Thanks,
I used to go to LA Fitness at Picadilly! (I had a membership which menat I could go to any club). Didn't like it, way too small and gets crowded especially weekday evenings (mon-thurs inclusive) classes can be very hard to get onto. I never used the freeweights section but the air con in the gym is OK. The spinning room air-con was a joke though, at one point pumping through the smell of cakes?! The staff are OK, class teachers v.friendly, staff are helpful (but I think quite bored?) the showers need a revamp- badly! And don't have any shelves. The thing I don't like about a crowded gym is it only takes one person to not wear a deoderant, having spent the week eating curry or other BO inducing foods and your gym session is painful in so many ways!
Oh, and you have to pay £10 for 30 mins use of the powerplate.
I'd go have a day trial there, see if you like it but I am at Virgin at the moment and much prefer it. Each to their own though, you may end up liking it, its a personal thing and depends on what you value from a gym.
I did a trial at Fitness First Tottenham Court Road. Its not all that, needs a revamp, machines were not able to work in a way I could benefit from and this put me off. I never got around to doing any classes there. The showers were OK, needed a bit of a clean and (wait for it...) a communial Sauna!! Some things are just not OK in a gym and I think this is one of them. Overall I'd say Picadilly LA Fitness has the odds over the Fitness First in Tottenham Court Road.0 -

Thanks for the input.
Looking at the pics the LA Fitness Gym does look really small. Queuing and space is not really an issue at my current Gym.
Anyone else tried any of the others I mentioned (Croydon/Victoria)?
I might just stick with my current Gym, although the jump from £15 to £52 isn't a nice one.0
