I'm suprised no-one has mentioned Fitspace, perhaps because they only have 8 branches. The two London ones I use are Woolwich and Islington.

I just joined Fitspace Islington last week. Their prices are good but their service so far has been appalling. You can only contact them via their online form, they don't give out a phone number or email. I used their form a year ago and they never replied. I registered last week and their website gave me an induction appointment but the promised email confirmation didn't come. I sent two requests for confirmation and had no reply. I turned up at the induction time and they were shut. I went the next morning, this morning, and their representative was pretty rude, I was given no apology and told I had to make another appointment for induction. That's three trips to the gym before I can use it: Missed appointment + morning visit + induction. Pathetic.

I'm here because I was thinking of cancelling and going elsewhere. Gym prices are too high in the UK.

Depending on where you are but in London I was quoted at £79 to £89 for two different branches. This was last month.

has anyone used a ladyzone gym?
I believe it is the same kind of thing as curves with a 30minute workout
    in a ladies only gym

it also includes a weight watchers type club

it is £276 a year plus £50 if i pay in one go
  • I find the best and cheapest way to pay for Gym membership is 12 months in advance currently £240 pa , on a credit card (then if your gym goes bust you get your money back). My main problem is with Dunstable Fitness First was the number of classes which got cancelled or no longer run. I am currently getting guest passes from all the gyms in the area to see which is best - may never have to join one at this rate!
David Lloyds is currently the best I have been to but they want £71 a year - I think not.

Just to let everyone know, I applied for the FF 5 day trial and they have offered me membership @ £14.95 per month - and that's not off-peak.

I spoke to Plymouth Nuffield today as thinking about changing to them from the Holiday Inn which is rather dirty and a bit small so i can't always get on the machines i want.

I was quoted £48 pcm corporate rate on a 12 month contract or £56 pcm on a rolling 3 month contract and a £30 joining fee.

I think i might go for it as the £48 is only £12 more than i pay at the moment (and i get a pay rise this month) and it looks a bit more up to date and they have a jacuzzi and a bigger pool!

Has anyone been to Plymouth Nuffield and knows what it's like at all? Or any Nuffields infact?

I'm not sure how the difference works out but I trialled a few Nuffield's in London back in feb when they had the 3 day trial (and then I won 2 weeks at anothe Nuffields). Its a fair gym, bit like LA Fitness (where I was at last year) but felt a bit more spacious. Fewer people there and the people who were there were the type that wore deoderant (a good thing!!) the staff were also friendly and smiled alot (good customer service) could just be my bad experiences but felt alot more professional then LA and overall a good gym. Much cleaner then Fitness First and no machine queues at all.

But I was quoted between £75 to £80 a month (no joining fee as they had a promo), not sure if the price indicates any difference as the rental prices in Central London are very high.

Is there any way you can get a free day (or 3 day) trial? call them up, explain you are in two minds, visit on a monday-wednesday to see the gym at its busiest but remember that if you know your never ever going to get to the gym mon-weds don't bother on these days- you need to see how the gym is when you intend to go as different people will go on different days and this can affect the entire dynamics of the gym.
