Be warned, I just tried to use my Tesco reward vouchers at LA Fitness, and they penalise you by charging an additional £50 to the quoted membership fee if you use Tesco reward vouchers to pay in part or full payment. The manager at my local LA Fitness didn't seem aware of this as he quoted me the standard rate when he showed me around, and I told him in advance I would be using my vouchers. I then had to call the LA Fitness head office and speak to the head of Sales and Memberships, who told me in no uncertain terms that there was an addional £50 to pay if I used any Tesco vouchers. None of this is clear on either LA Fitness or Tesco's website. I won't be joining.0

Hi,
I've been into my local Virgin Active to ask about joining. They said it would be £56 a month for a month-on-month contract, or £48 for Diamond Membership (12 month rolling contract, fixed price).
Since getting home though, I've seen that with the Virgin Credit card you can get 1 months free membership if you sign up for a 12 month contract (and pay with the card).
Given that it seems to be impossible to speak to anyone on the phone about memberships, I was wondering if anyone knows if this applies to the Diamond Membership, or is it just the "full price" membership?
Thanks,
Adam.0 -

I don't get why its not possible to speak to anyone about membership, all gyms have a membership/sales department and if you were considering joining I am sure they'd want to hear from you, either go in and visit for a tour which all gyms do or maybe call them up and ask to speak to someone about memberships as you have a question- assuming you have done all that, what was the problem? did the phone not pick up or are people refusing to speak to you about membership? maybe try the head office?0 -
I didn't see this in the main article, but Nuffield have a summer offer on at the moment; think it's running until the end of August- http://www.nuffieldhealth.com/Individuals/Special-offers/Get-summer-fit/
Looks like it's a month long trial membership with a Health MOT thrown in. Unlucky my nearest one is 40 miles away...0 -
Hi there, looking to join a gym, mainly have been looking at Nuffield. Haven't looked much into it, but if i'm under 18 (over 16) would i still have to pay quite a lot? Planning to do a trial there soon, see how i like it. Looked at the 6 week summer deal in my area but was £89! Anyone heard of any deals? Sorry to be a pain!:T0

Was searching on Google to find out more about virgin active memberships and this is what I found...
"August is Free at Virgin Active! Join & Get Access to All 71 Clubs"
Called up my local Virgin Active to enquire and managed to get the deal, one month free membership which they are offering for all types of membership including flexible (monthly rolling) membership!0 -

Your 17 then?
You may need parental concent but that could mean you may get a cheaper price as a result, you'd have to ask the gyms themselves as with any contract, it changes with the gym each time slightly different.
Nuffields are very expensive but IMO its worth doing a day trial for free, they then can send you offers, n/b never ever try this with fitness first as they will bombard you with offers forever after, years and years after. I did a 2 week free trial at Nuffields 6 months ago, they have sent me about 3 emails since and nothing else. (I joined a different gym so they are useless to me) offers were around the £70 mark though so still very expensive.
What price range are you looking for and when do you want to be using the gym? if you use it in less busy times, normally before 4pm you can sometimes get an off-peak membership which can save you a few ££, student memberships may also be something to ask about, some colleges have ties with certain gyms so it could be worth asking your student union if you have one.
I am wary of advising it just because I have had such bad experiences myself but have a look around your local council's gym, see if you can get a trial first to chec it out and experience it for yourself, they normally work out cheaper (depending on your council- my local council gym is more expensive then LA Fitness!!).
Also think about what you want from the gym, are you going to be spending a lot of time there? or just once a week? are you looking to try out classes? or is the gym itself your only focus- think about weather or not the "best gym in the country" is really going to be of any value to you, if having all the mod cons is important as your spending a considerable amount of time each week, say 15 hours or so there, you can then get your priorities right: no clothes as your getting your kicks from the treadmill for example.
But first start with a budget, and take as many free trials as you can- you can visit gyms free of charge for a while that way! (I lasted 6 weeks, 5 days a week like this!!)0 -
I've read what's been said on this forum about bartering with gym memberships and am sure it must be possible as they don't list any price on site or in the gym, but I can't seem to get them to budge, what am I doing wrong?
I've been to the gym, two days before the month end as advised, and after a look round said I was looking to join, what are the fees. I then asked what they'd be next month (two days) and they said they didn't know yet. I asked if there was any flexiblitity on the price and was told no. I said it seemed expensive and needed to think so would call them, they let me walk away.
I rang today, found the deals are just about the same (they are giving August for free, same as if u pay by virgin CC) but still no scope to move the price. Again I've said I'll take a look at other optiions and they happily wish me well and let me go.
Are we sure there's scope for a bargain here?0
