23" TFT monitor? comments.

I am thinking of buying a new monitor,(have a 15" CRT one at the moment), and was looking a this one, (pictured), or maybe this one. Although for the extra cost, I cannot see what I would gain!

I don't need it for gaming or anything like that, just surfing and the odd TV prog on iPlayer etc.

Don't really want to buy on the web as if something wrong there could/will be problems and cost to return it, the company, (CPC), is local to me and are very good at customer service, I could also purchase it online and use DSR to return, and as I could return it personally, there would be little or no cost.

Any comments or suggestions welcome.TFTMONITOR.jpg

Do you know how big that is? My housemate just bought a 23" and its HUGE.

They also advertise that its capable of HD yet it doesn't seem to come with a DVI or HDMI connection, only VGA? Which is pointless beyond belief.

This seems to indicate it has a DVI socket.

Overall you wouldn't gain anything. You can't connect an xbox (unless you get a HDMI DVI convertor, which would mean no sound). Unless your PC has a bluray player and DVI output there would be no point.

What PC are you intending to use this new widescreen monitor with? I would guess that you will also need a new graphics card to drive it.

PC World have a 22" LG W2243S-PF for £120 if you have one nearby.

  • If your going from a non widescreen monitor the widescreen will be an instant improvement for web browsing, especially forums, as you will be able to see extra long posts, posts containing big pics without having to scroll across.

What graphics card are you going to connect it to?

Any reasonably modern card will have no problem with it as long as you're not gaming.

Yep the measurements are in the ad.

Does it suggest HD? The ad states, "VGA Hi-D", I thought that for HD the initials should be "HD"

The one from dooyoo means I have to purchase from the web, as I said in the OP, I would rather not do that.

As I said, I don't want it for ANY gaming, just thought to go up from my 15" CRT monitor and was wondering if this would be OK, I do have room to site it.

Just an ordinary desktop PC, which is capable of allowing me to watch live and iPlayer, 4OD etc. Would I really need a new graphics card?

The Lg you point to,(are LG OK?), seems to have lower specs?

    Acer 1920 x 1080 resolution
    LG 1600 x 900 " .....

    Acer 40,000:1 Contrast ratio
    LG 30,000:1 " " ......

Can your graphics card be set to a resolution of 1920 x 1080?

The LG may well be a lower spec but depending on your intended use it may well be adequate for your needs.

Haven't a clue re the graphics card, is there a way to know? and if not would the LG 1600 x 900 be OK with whatever graphics card I have?

Is there much difference between Acer and LG for reliability? They both have 3 year warranties, so i suppose they must have some confidence in them.

Windows key + Pause/Break key, Hardware, Device Manager, Display Adaptors, Which one?

You need to be able to set the graphics to the native resolution of the screen.
