Civil Service Back Pay

Trade Unions are hopeless.
yes unions are really hopeless, especially when it come to the NICS, I imagine the staff on their own could have negotiated a better pension rate than 17.5%, 6 months full pay sick pay, the best maternity leave/pay in the public service etc etc
if you need a reminder of what unions have done go on youtube and search under 'what have the unions ever done for us'
they are not miracle workers, but they have have achieved a helluva lot more than the ordinary worker could do on their own
traffic attendants and visteon disputes show that in 21st century they can still have success stories0 -
Sorry but the 6 months sick pay, maternity leave etc has been in place from I joined way back in 1978. No time for unions I'm sure CAB or some other organisation could have kept us right for free as opposed to paying union fees0

This part made me laugh - the unions as usual showed themselves to be nothing but hold the place to ransom bully boys! The same when they 'negotiate' a pay deal for the NICS. They literally state something completely unrealistic, then threaten strike's when they don't get their own way.
The last time I witnessed the traffic wardens and the union together, it was because there had been an unlawful strike and the wardens had been sacked - and correctly so. I'm not so up to date with visteon, but the just that I've quickly picked up from google, is that the union wanted the company to honour packages agreed with the previous owners, who had nothing to do with the company  . As I say I'm not fully aware of the situation but that's bad if it's what I've picked up after 2 mins on the internet.
I'll not deny unions had their place back in the 70's and 80's but the simple fact is, they're not needed anymore and everytime I hear anything about NIPSA on the tv or media I cringe.
Again the backpay - I'll not turn away a cheque coming my way but also if it never materialised I wouldn't be crying over it. When I joined I was given the terms and conditions, I was aware of my pay and the crap pay scales, and I still accepted them, as did everyone else. If I needed to lodge a complaint with the I.T I could and would if I felt strongly enough, I wouldn't need NIPSA to do it for me0 -
Just received a phone call to advise there's a meeting this Monday 1st February in Stormont Committee room 144 from 12pm -1pm regarding the likes of myself who is not entitled to Back Pay cause even though I was employed for 4.5 years during the disputed years I wasn't employed by NICS @ 01/08/08. All been well I will be there. If anyone else thinks or knows they are not entitled to Back Pay for what ever reason it might be in their interest to attend. If you decide to come along you will need I.D to gain entrance plus the name of a Political Party so they can say your their guest and they in turn will sign you in.0

Choco who has called/is hosting the meeting? I have a friend who might be interested in attending.0

I have gone to my local MLAs from both sides of the community and it was one of their secretaries. Right now I have contacted the other MLA offices to see if they are aware. As far as I see it everyone this effects should be there regardless of their community background. I think the more turns up the better and after all we all have differnet situations e.g retired, transferred over , left voluntary etc.0

Are you intending to make the press (maybe via the Secretary who will have easy access to the press) aware of the meeting? Best way I would have thought for ensuring a good turnout.0
-
Unfortunately the secretary that contacted me does not belong to the party that got original message about meeting as I did enquire about this. However I am awaiting call from my other MLA to check have they heard anything. However if word is going about I'm sure it will not be long before Belfast Telegraph, Newsletter, Irish News & other local papers will pick up.0
