Big slow cooker had 3 lamb shanks in rosemary and red currant, with onions, celery, orange and yellow peppers in 2 cartons of pasatta for 8 hours. Removed bones, added two tins of new potatoes and a whole tub of button mushrooms thinly sliced. That's at least five dinners spread over a month. In the small slow cooker was beef skirt with onions, carrots and 4 beef oxo cubes and a couple of cups of water. Had for dinner tonight with roast potatoes and three types of green veg, scrum. I love my slow cookers!

I'm a slow cooker novice but I'm using it more and more now....and it's cheaper than using the gas oven.

Pork Belly strips marinated in BBQ sauce.
They took 3 and a half hours to cook.
They were soooo succulent and gravy was gorgeous. I had them with Curly Kale and Rice.

Yes the slow cooker is cheap to run, though if you have a gas cooker, a suitable stock pot and a wonder bag then it is even cheaper, though you need to be around for the first 40 minutes to stop it burning and to transfer it to a wonder bag. After that you can go off and leave it as long as necessary. During the winter my slow cooker is used regularly, but I plan on getting a wonder bag for camping with.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

    Wonderbags--

The British Army used them in the field during the war

    They were called "Hay Boxes"
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
