My first attempt using my slow cooker today!! 300g beef, couple of carrots, celery, onion, mushrooms, new potatoes, tin of tomatoes and a pint of beef stock.

I browned off the beef first then just put everything in the slow cooker on auto. Does this sound OK, and how long should I cook it for? Thanks x

After six hours it is still nowhere near being ready! Changed the setting to high and trying for another few hours, and will have for tomorrow's tea instead. Gutted :-(

Oxtail is overrated, shan't be doing it again, shall stick to shin

I so agree. I much prefer shin.

I've cooked a tex mex brisket. Not the loveliest meal that I've made but edible.

Some slow cookers don't switch from high to low on auto, but from low to 'keep warm'

  • Cooked my first whole chicken today. Just put a small amount of stock n herbs in. 5hrs later chicken just fell to pieces. Boiled stock n added some granules, beautiful gravy!

It's been on for 6 hours and the carrots and spuds are still not cooked!! Saucepan job I think :-(

I found that it takes 12 hours on low heat or 8 hours with high heat. It takes time, it is called a slow cooker! :)

Lamb tagine with butternut squash. It used to be slowcooker Tuesday but I have used it three times this week already.
