Erm, some water and bicarbonate of soda. After looking at various uses for a slow cooker over the weekend - apparently it can be used as an air freshener!

As the slow cooker bread was a fail at weekend, I'm giving the air freshener a try tonight.

Does anybody know how good cakes are in the slow cooker. I've found a recipe for gooey choc puddings (Nigella's chocohotopots) that looks delicious, and I'm wondering how to adapt it for the slow cooker. Would I need to add water to steam them? Or do I just put the puddings in and pop the lid on? Anybody have any experience of making cakes/puddings in SC?
This is WAY more fun than monopoly.

Can anyone help? I'm looking for a 3.5 litre slow cooker with an auto function. Does anyone have any ideas?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
  • Beef stew in mine today which is a total improvisation of everything I had left in my fridge!

    500g casserole beef
    5 carrots
    2 onions
    2 bay leaves
    Thyme
    Flour salt pepper
    Tomato pur!e
    Small glass red wine
    Worcestershire sauce
    Garlic
    Beef stock

Basically dumped all the ingredients in bar the beef which I first rolled in flour seasoned with salt, pepper and thyme, then dumped that in, gave everything a good stir and have set on low for 8 hours. No idea how it will turn out but it smells delicious even raw! :D

My slow cooker is a Morphy Richards one and I've using it on Medium setting for around 5-8 hours to cook sausages, pork and chicken. Is this how most people use it? Or should I use the low setting? (I tried the low for 9 hours some time ago and things did not seem to cook...)

Slow cookers vary. My Beef, and Bean stew was put on low setting at 7.15am this morning, and is bubbling away nicely (will be ready in a few hours), but I just have the 2 heat settings (Low, and high), plus a keep-warm function on my Cookworks one.

If I'd have started it later, say at 10, I would have put on high for an hour or so first. Medium seems like a good regular setting for yours. :)
New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!

Yes, I think so, but that's why I asked how other people uses the same one.. I don't want to overcook things if they don't need to. I've been using the slow cooker while at home to start with, but I'm planning to leave it while I'm at work, and that will be at least 9 hours.
