In my slow cooker today.... part 2

Mmm, when you put it in the slow cooker do you add any liquid or put it on a bed of onions or anything?
You can just experiment, there are very few rules with slow cookers.
I dont usually if I am doing pulled pork. I have more juices in than usual today but I suspect thats the brining. If its not too salty I'll make some gravy for the freezer with it.
Have just given it a prod and the knife cut through some of the meat like butter. Will give it another couple of hours for the larger bits.

I used two of these joints (never fails to amaze me how cheap cuts are fantastic in the sc)

Just a word of warning - if you buy one of these joints - make sure it IS shouldar, as i got one in my click and collect order which was actually leg meat (OH used to be a butcher) Leg doesn't make such a good slow roast as there's not enough marbling.
For the lady whose meat was dry - do you lift the lid during the cooking process? Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I'm feeling very inspired by the recipes on the post. I mainly use my slow cooker for rice pudding, only used it for casseroles etc a couple of times. Dinner is already planned for today (traditional roast) however I know I have some random bits of meat in the freezer and I'm certain there will be left over veg so can't wait to experiment this weekLBM September 2012Debt at LBM £10,573.00Current debt £3,250 (29/12/20)Current savings £4,950 (29/12/20)0

Hi all,
Thrift kitten, that is exactly what is in my slow cooker.
I have just bought a new one 6.5 ltr. It's much bigger than my old one, so will get three dinners out of it for the family.
One with dumplings and two will freeze for later, one will fill some large Yorkshire Puds any the last with cheese and herby cobblers.
I to love autumn, I even like autumn clothes better than summer ones, the only downside in my opinion is the constant sweeping of leaves and dragging myself out of bed on dark cold mornings.Well Behaved women seldom make history

I'm sure this has already been covered but how do you do these in slow cooker?
Cheers0 -
Hello!!
I have done a whole chicken in the slow cooker today and it was AMAZING!!
Question 1 - Are the juices at the bottom 'stock' or do I need to do something to them before they are 'stock'?
Question2 - How do you make gravy from the juices at the bottom?..I tried...and failed...miserably! :rotfl:
Thanks for any help!:TSimplify and then Simplify some more!0 -
1Jim and VDM,
I am sure the dumplings and stock topics have been answered before but I have forgotten the answers myself:obut I know the dumplings in a sc is easy and I am sure that the fluid from a chicken can be and often is stock so can be used in gravy or soups...
Someone will be along with the appropriate information I am sure.
Look at these...

We had roast lamb for dinner but did do a butternut squash soup in the sc to take to work for lunch tomorrow, have also got the bm on timer for some nice hm bread to go with it, just hope I don't eat it for breakfast, nothing like the smell of fresh bread to wake you!'You have brains in your head.
