Was up early this morning so browned off chunks of pork belly and some lovely pork and herb sausages (both from a colleague who has a farm) and chucked them in the slow cooker with passata, onion, hot smoked paprika and garlic. Has been simmering on all day on low and in the words of my work from home OH "It looks mmmmmmmmmmmmmm" :j

Will be a tin of condensed milk as I am going to try making it into caramel.

There are two ways to make it, either in the tin or in a glass jug/dish.

I think I may try the dish method, may be easier to get more out of the dish than the tin.

    In the tin method. http://5perfectimperfections.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/caramel-in-can.html

In the glass jug method. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1mJozlkArfM

It takes 8 to 9 hours in the slow cooker (about 3 hours if you boil it in the tin in a pan on the cooker), so will have a go tonight.

Well the braising steak turned out well, it was really nice.

Last night i put in some diced pork, peppers, onions, garlic and a touch of tomato puree and added about two tablespoons of mexican seasoning.

I've just taken it all out and popped it onto a bed of cauliflower and broccolli to reheat later and it is delish!

PS Sb let us know how the caramel turned out, looks interesting as i've never made any. The tin of condensed milk in my cupboard was destined for icecream but that could change :D
Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

    It was a major success!

I decided to make it in a jar so covered the top with foil, put into the slow cooker (I used my small 1.5l one), boiled a kettle, let the water cool a little, pour the water to just above the level of the milk, put the lid on and left overnight on low for 8 hours.

    This could def become addictive.

It is like scraping the caramel off a ton of Mars bars and sticking it in the jar, except this was thicker than Mars type caramel.

I used Farmlea condensed milk, 99p a tin from most supermarkets.

You are welcome, let us all know what you think of it.

I know what I am going to use my glass yoghurt making jars for now.

    MORE caramel!

    :D

So much for cutting down on calories.

I did read that someone made it in the tin, put in the fridge for a few hours and then opened both ends of the tin, pushed the caramel out and cut it into slices.

Def going to try that version too.

It's amazing what you can learn from Pinterest.

    Looks AMAZING.

Found this yesterday when looking for recipes - absolutely hilarious, I recommend a read!
