In my slow cooker today.... part 2

OK so what am I doing wrong?! Puchased a SC at xmas and used it 3 times -
1.) Chilli - pretty good as followed recipe book
2.) Chicken Casserole - VERY watery, even after loads of lentils. Pretty bland.
3.) Bolognese - water swimming around plate and soooooooo bland!
I have tried reducing liquid content on attempts 2 and 3 but with the bolognese added 2 tins of tomatoes as thought I would need the tomato flavour but didn't help. Added puree, dash of ketchup, herbs, SandP.....
Any suggestions on what I may doing wrong? Any help much appreciated . Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116:grin: Official DFW Nerd Club 928- Proud to be dealing with my debts :grin:0 -
I want to cook a gammon joint in mine tomorrow in coca cola. Has anyone done this? The idea is from Nigella but she does it in a pan, bringing the cola to a simmer so I'm not sure it will work in the slow cooker.
Otherwise, has anyone got any other ideas, especially how long to cook it for, I was thinking of all day basically, it's 1.2kg

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i love cooking gammon in cola, never used slow cooker for this but cant see it being a problem,0

Mince,
3 tins of chopped toms,
Beef stock cube dissolved in half a pint of warm water

Squirt of tom puree
Give it all a good stir and off you pop......

Saffy - that sounds great but I only used 2 tins of tomatoes and NO stock/water and it was soooooo watery. Maybe because I only cooked for 4 hours on high?? Does it need all day to get the correct consistency? Jan 2008-Paid 74% of debt as of MAR 2012 (DFD - APR 2014) DMP Support Thread Member 154  DFW Long Hauler 116:grin: Official DFW Nerd Club 928- Proud to be dealing with my debts :grin:0

Hi, I'm new on here but have been lurking for a while and you've all been very inspiring! My ds (18) bought me a slow cooker for christmas and so far I've made spag bol, chicken curry, beef casserole and lots of soup. I've batch cooked (for the first time ever!) and have meals in the freezer - unheard of for me, but so convenient after work :T.
So, today I have a gammon joint to cook and would like to do it this afternoon for either tonight or tomorrow nights dinner. What do I do please?? Do I need liquid in it?
Thanks0 -
Nothing tonight but had a double slow cooker day yesterday - lamb and chickpea curry in the small one and gammon in the large one. Tonight's tea is ham and butter bean soup with the stock from the sc.0

I'm new to OS - and thrilled when I spotted this thread as I do actually have something in the slow cooker for tonight's tea
I'm having a 'using up everything in the bottom of the fridge' day - so it's some chicken breasts, carrots, potatoes and I'll chuck in some peas later on. Not very exciting I know! But if I can make it to payday (Friday) without buying any more food we will have underspent on our food budget for the month ... yipee!0 -

i'm sure someone else will be more help than me, but i'm wondering if maybe you need to try another way. maybe try with a tin (morrisons chasseur sauce in a tin is cheap) just put that in with meat potato and carrots and a bit of salt and pepper and you'll maybe get an idea of the liquid quantity you need for next time , i usually do something like this for 3 hours high then about 4 low, just try something dead easy then go onto harder things0
