What's in my big Morphy richards oval one?

3 cracks, that's what :( This is the second one that's done that, and I don't expose it to thermal shocks...

Can anyone tell me if I can do dumplings in the slow cooker ? I cook my stews/casseroles in the SC on low. If I were able to cook dumplings what time would I put the dumplings in and how long cook them for

    Thanks:)

I put mine in about 45 minutes before we want to eat. They are usually nice and fluffy by then

    Sorry to hear that.

Hopefully you can grab a bargain for your next one. I bought two in the last year, very reasonable and well used for sure!

i take it these slow cookers are just like a big pan then? im looking into getting one..

edit- im not being facesscus (cant spell lol) i am genuinely wanting to know

You don't seem to have had an answer to this so far.

Slow cookers are electrical equipment that have removeable ceramic pots (most now come with a glass lid).

You can get lots of different sizes, I have 2 - a large oval one with 6.5 litre capacity and a smaller one.

The basic idea is you put raw veg & meat in (some people brown the meat, I don't) and liquid and it cooks over a period of hours using up a very small amount of electricity.
Most have a 'high' & 'low' setting, some have a 'medium' or 'warm' setting.

You can put joints of meat in and you can also do puddings in it.

I sometimes buy reduced root veg and make a batch of home-made soup.

It's one of the things I can't and won't do without.

Take a read through some of the posts where people say what they've got in their slow cooker - it will give you an idea what you can use it for and whether it would be a good buy for you.

"green soup" - some soaked peas, a shredded leek, 3 diced small potatoes, some shredded spring greens, 2 chicken stock cubes, a tablespoon of dried herbs, some boiling water and a tin of green lentils.... will be blended when cooked and some milk added

Got a replacement 5litre capacity one from Sainsburys (model 598-085) - £15.99 - large piece of bone in gammon in there now - it's smaller than my old Morphy Richards one, but that was rather large anyway

Also brisket: now tomatoes are coming down in price (local market) sliced 2 with onion and put that in, with just salt & pepper. This need to be cooked on high so the juices reduce and get really yummy.

Gammon joint with a can of coke and an onion. Tasty, quick and easy! :T

Hoping to slice some for sandwiches and usually make a pie with the little bits that don't slice v well (usually because I can't wait until it cools before I slice it ;) )
