tbh all slowcookers are fab i love my big morphy richards one, and my argos value one, just remeber oval ones are better for roasts/steaks and chops and tall round ones are fab for sauces and soups and theres nearly always a few half price in argos
today in my slowcooker i have a beef joint with some yummy stock for gravy and carrots, gonna serve it with mash, roasties and brocolliDEC GC £463.67/£450

hey,
i bought a brisket a while back and have finally gotten around to using it. I have never used one before but thought my best bed was in the slow cooker.
I sealed it in a pan and then just bunged it in the sc with some veg and a little bit of stock. is that ok? is there anything in particular it would be nice with??Barclays: 3900/4200

Hi
Sounds lovely. Some seal, some don't. I don't bother. It's good that it can be used either way!
I often put a smearing of dry mustard on the meat, sometimes a sprinkle of flour. I like root veg with red meat, you can cook at the same time and the veg get infused with the meat flavours. Unless I'm cooking with ale I prefer to cook with no fluid or just a tablespoon or too or I fins it boils (ok but not as yummy IMHO) rather than slow cooks. When the meats nearly done or finished you can add water to lift the lovely flavours that escaped. I like to add a splash of fish sauce into the gravy while thats cooking. Another personal preference is to have these sort of foods with lovely mash.
All down to taste, the possibilities are endless. Enjoy.

Wondering whether you could solve the pallid chicken problem by whacking it in the oven for half an hour?
I often do this with a joint that I've cooked in the SC. Last night's pork still fell apart, but it had crackling!

Got some chicken drumsticks. Think I'll do them with some honey and onion. Kinda like this but without the poor looking green beans. http://jennasjourneyblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/rebekahs-honey-onion-chicken-green.html Probably serve it with rice or cous cous and veg.
I love the slow cooker in warm weather - just heats the food and not the whole kitchen/flat!0 -
I have a prima slow cooker which I bought in a car boot for just £5. It's a white one so over the years has become stained. I saw a lovely green Morphy Richards today for £12, still in the box, but couldn't get myself to buy it 'cos there's nothing wrong with the old one - yet!
Today I have pork steaks, red onion, red pepper, portobello mushrooms, red wine (vinegar?), fresh thyme, garlic and a few potatoes thrown in just to see what the result will be. It smells divine, and I'm trying to use up all the little bits and pieces in the small freezer this week, so it really will be pot luck!Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
