Making soup. HM chicken stock, tin tomatoes, courgette, carrot, onion, garlic, black pepper, cumin, allspice, thyme, pinch chilli flakes.
  • Got a question?????

I am going to do a ham hock (because I'm cheap!) in coke over the weekend. I dont want all the fat in the coke sauce. I was thinking of soaking the hock over night to reduce the salt and then skinning it before popping it in the slow cooker, what do you reckon?

I am using a recipe from my Hamlyn 200 slow cooker recipes that I downloaded to my kindle app, fantastic book! The only change is they suggest tinned kidney beans which we dont like so I am going to use butter beans......yum! going to serve with baked potatoes and veg.

I removed most of the outer fat (before cooking) from the ham hock I did the other day. I didn't soak the meat beforehand and it wasn't too salty. I very rarely add salt to my food, so would've reacted to the hock if it had been overly salty.

I'm sure your dish will be lovely. Will try it sometime soon, as have only tried gammon in cola in the SC before.

I will be doing ham in coke. Well its a smoked bacon joint that's been soaking overnight. Ham joints are way to expensive and the butcher was out of hocks :-(

Pork shoulder joint sitting on a bed of carrots with a little boiling water in the bottom. Looking forward to serving it with roasties later. Will cut the crackling off and put it in the oven to crisp up later.

Got Veg curry in mine today, using up odds and sods in kitchen for dinner and lunch during the week.
4 Potatos, 1 onion, 1 cauliflower, 2 tomatos, crushed garlic, Tumeric, cumin, garam masala, curry powder, salt, sugar and water. Never tried it before, but it smells ok so far!!

It tasted ok in the end, although, there was not much curry sauce as such - had the right flavours just not enough sauce.

Duck crown, on a bed of sliced onion, with rose wine, garlic, a little cranberry sauce, allspice, rosemary, thyme, seasalt, and black pepper.

Will serve with chopped leeks/greens, plus roasted mixed vegetables (carrots, turnip, parsnip, potato).

I'm doing some diet cola chicken to see what it's like.

A chicken breast covered in diet cola with a dash of Tommy K and sprinkling of crushed garlic and chillis.

Hoping it's going to be good lol

Did a piece of brisket in mine today, in a bit of water and a stock cube. Was delicious...couldn't carve it as it was falling apart...had to shred it with some forks.
