Hi, I'm new to this part of MSE. Could you tell me when you cook chicken pieces in a casserole, do you put the slow cooker on low or high and for how long approx 7-8hrs on low or 3-4hrs on high. Havn't cooked chicken before in there.

Ohh Thanks La escocesa, I've just taken your advice & put the rest of my chicken pieces in with some onions, herbs and some tomato based sauce! I'm getting all adventurous now!!
Sarah - I cooked chicken pieces for the first time yesterday. I cooked it on low for 8 hrs and it turned out well - the chicken was falling off the bone when I took it out of the cooker. HTH x0 -
I used schwartz slowcook chicken curry mix
Bunged in loads of onions, mushrooms, baby corn, peas & potatoes. Added tinned toms which I was supposed to add the mix too but missed that when reading instructionsbut there was just not enough liquid so topped it up with water.
The end result tasted of nothing so had to add more curry powder & cumin seeds just to get a curry flavour. It was edible but not something I'd try again. Had the sausage & bean one the other day, same result really. Not enough liquid and tasted a bit 'earthy'.
So, so far schwartz slowcook mixes are NOT a hit in this houseIts not what you do but the way that you do it, thats what get results :T

I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken in red wine one but we really liked the curry one - mind you I followed the instructionsalmost to the letter under OH's 'guidance' - I practically doubled up on the chicken and potato amounts they said - I've got the beef one in the cupboard but think that might be the same as the chicken red wine one.
Today I did a beef stroganof - then threw in some cooked pasta tubes at the end. Was mmmmmm0 -
I need some inspiration! I have a slow cooker and use it occasionally if I'm doing a stew but my kids really hate stew and even though they get it at least twice a month most of it goes to waste (or in the freezer from now on). I have loads of meat in the freezer so I am after some ideas for child friendly dishes I can give the kids when we get in from work/childminders. My boys are 3 & 6 by the way, not that fussy but not keen on all in dishes such as stew or casserole. Any ideas? I've had a quick look around and most of the recipes seem to be stew/soup esq unless I am not looking in the right place (prob). ThanksJust little old me!0

I've got sausages, a chopped up sweet potato, a couple of baby potato and a handful of baby carrots in mine. Should do enough for me, plus leftovers for lunch tomorrow.0

How about ribs? I buy ribs then SC for 6-8 hrs, then bung a sauce over them and roast for 30-40mins.
Sausage casserole - brown sausages then bung in with some onions, mushrooms, bacon bits, tin toms, bbq sauce, tom puree and possibly a splash of red wine.
People also use SC to cook full chicken and say its good (havent tried myself yet) or gammon either in apple juice, cider or coke.
Chicken wings - there is a recipe on here somewhere.
Its also worth looking at the SC recipe thread for more ideas.0 -
