I've worked in retail and it's not an acceptable thing to keep sale items from going onto the shop floor, they're designed to get the customer in, not save the employee money.

They already have staff discount as a perk of the job.

My god what is this about!! Im sure the staff get lots of reduced items every day and you will never know about them! Get a grip of yourself. forgot to mention that trolleys could contain valuable one pound coins:j The cakes were cream and could quite well have been past their best and the staff member may have just noticed. Do you really think for one minute that someone would take them out just to take them back again? Or would you have bought them anyway just to sue the supermarket:mad:
