But I won't go along with the whole 'she was rude' idea based purely on the assumption that she was psychic, thought the cakes were put back on the self just to be reduced, listend in on the odd conversation with the OPs wife and bought them herself

Judging by the OP's narrative of events, whether or not the assistant wanted to buy them herself is irrelevant. I think it is fair to assume that - whether her reason was spite or otherwise - her motivation, knowing that the OP was looking to purchase the items in question, was to ensure that he was not able to.
  • Next time I would take the names of them all from their name badges and send a complaint, in writing, to head office and point out that they deprived you, a loyal customer, of discounted product.

Also point out they get employee discounts as well so they would pay even less. The problem is if employees discount food then trouser it themselves how does the store know they are not just discounting stuff to get it even cheaper. It might be worth pointing that out too.

staff discount only works if buying something over £1, so would not work for the cream cakes!

you cannot reduce items unless they are going out of date, everytime you reduce an item, it is recorded, when you finish a printout is produced, which shows what items and value, and has be signed off by the manager.
if you ever reduce an item not permitted or for less then store guidlines it is a sackable offense, as it is deemed to be stealing.

    Utterly irrelevant.

If you care that much, why're you here and not on the Save The Children forum?

.....and I'd be interested to see a link to the story about kids eating mud, if you can supply one? Cheers.

Yes I know the post was utterly irrelevent. I know it was off topic.
I commented like that was I was watching the news about the earthquake same time as reading this thread. I didn't know myself this was happening until then.. It was very sad. It just ruffled me a bit the length the OP was going to go over the box of cream cakes.
He clearly should have been taking it up instore at the time of the incident with the assistant or the manager.

Thanks to others for posting that link to the story I watched the story on CNN about it.

I have to admit if I was the one reading your complaint in Morrison's HQ I would be laughing my head off!!

There are much more important things in life to worry about other than a member of staff getting to a box of cakes before you did. Next you'll be accusing her of deciding the price for herself so she can get it cheaper!!!

there hadnt been an earthquake in Haiti when I posted the above originally, but it doesnt half put things into perspective.

Why would someone whinge about something so trivial when there are people who have lost everything and everyone in their lives.

Although, I did think about this thread when I was in Morrisons last night and someone was reducing the cakes :p

  • Funny how almost everyone is assuming the lady took them to buy. The guy didn't bother to talk to her at all in this entire situation. Is that lady who works at Morrison's supposed to be a mind reader? There are a million scenarios which could fit, and the OP didn't bother to find out any of them. And instead of telling his wife (before the lady took them) that he wanted to buy them, why didn't he tell the lady who worked there? Instead of telling his wife (after the lady took them), that he wanted to buy them, why didn't he talk to the lady? What he told us is not information to come to a solid conclusion. He's being a big !!!!! about it. And to waste anyone's time with this complaint is a joke. You have nothing to complain about but assumptions.

It could be argued that a S/A seeing people looking at the cakes should have asked them if they wanted to purchase the cream cakes before taking them away.It is known as being responsive to your customers needs and giving them good service.

But the cakes might have been past the time when the shop were allowed to sell them and the lass might only have noticed after she'd printed the sticker. I'm sure if the OP had took them home to find the cream had turned he'd have had an even bigger fit and went off to trading standards or something.

This whole 21 page thread could have been sorted by the OP just quickly and politely saying to the member of staff, "Please can I have those cakes?" How quick would that have been? Without that question no-one knows why she took them? Everything else is speculation.
