"Last option would be just to get 3 accounts with 5k and find an extra 1k to do the juggling with, which I could do...

Get 3 with 5K in each
Login once a month shuffle £1K through the accounts (A>B>C>A) -takes about 30 secs.
    (no new money reqired)

Also with 5K in each you can leave your interest in situ to acru more interest

    Cheerz Dizzy.

One fine issue I have with people recommending "shuffling" the mentioned 1k.

Technically do you have 16k in the 3 accounts?

As shuffling the 1k out of the 15k then would go below the lower 5k balance and render the account out of limits no?

Also, how is the balance calculated? at a certain time on a certain day or if the account ever in that month fluctuated below 5k?

No - the end of day balance doesn't drop as the £1k is back where it started in a few secs

    Bar Stewards!!!

I already have a Premier Vantage account, which is also joint account with my wife.

We decided to each open a Classic Account and then Upgrade them to Vantage accounts, keep £7,000 in each and get the 4%.

Actually, if all went well the first time, we also decided to repeat the exercise and each have two Classic accounts each with Vantage.

I've just logged on to our Lloyds TSB online accounts (as Lloyds TSB customers will know, there is just one set of log on details for all one's accounts) and 'Lo and Behold!' there is my brand new Classic Account up and running with its £0.00 balance.

"Right", I thought. "I'll upgrade it to 'Vantage' and get my £7,000 stuck into it."

Guess what? Correct. THERE IS NO FACILITY TO DO THIS USING THE 'UPGRADE' BUTTON. ONE CAN ONLY UPGRADE IT TO A 'SILVER' ACCOUNT.

I'm going to have to try a phone call method.

This is completely contrary to what it says here:
    From http://www.lloydstsb.com/current_accounts/classic_and_classic_plus_accounts.asp
    Existing customers

    Adding Vantage to your account
If you already have an account with Lloyds TSB and you’re registered for Internet Banking adding Vantage is easy and hassle free - just log on to Internet Banking and click on the upgrade link next to your account name.

It's also completely contrary to what it says here, as well:
    Opening an additional account
You can apply for an additional Classic Account online through Internet Banking, perfect for budgeting or making into a joint account.

    Top of Form

    You asked us:
    How do I get Vantage?

    Our answer is:
To add Vantage to your current account online use the 'Upgrade' link for the relevant account on 'Your accounts' page or on your account statement page.

This will take you to the 'Current accounts' page. Scroll down to the 'Add Vantage now' link.

You can also use the 'Added Value Accounts' link in the 'Day-to-day' section of 'Apply online', on the right-hand side of the screen.

Is it just me? Or am I alone in almost being completely paranoid in my belief that Lloyds TSB are just cheats in screwing that last bit of cash out of you and that they will use anything and everything to be unhelpful to see that they get the best value out of your money, whilst preventing you from getting it?

I do believe they use lots and lots of scammy methods to delay transfers, bury helpful information, change limits without properly telling you, over complicate things and also don't train their staff properly - so that one person will tell you one thing and another will tell you something different.

We have banked with these people for over 40 years and our patience is wearing very, very, very thin.

They found a link to upgrade to Vantage by first clicking on Current account on the right hand side under Apply Online- Day to Day.

Could anyone tell me if Lloyds search your credit file when upgrading to Vantage?

I want to apply for my first credit card later this month and don't want search on my file before that.

The account I currently have with them is the Classic with no overdraft (they do report it ever month to the credit rating agencies).

If they do, then apply for the credit card this week as I want the Vantage on my account for a regular saver that is about to pay out.

Probably ring the branch tomorrow to add another 2 vatage accounts.
    Thanks
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

it can be done online, as when i was looking at the upgrade options the other day it was listed the other week,

it defaults to offer the silver account but if you look on either that page, or select the silver link, there is an option to look at other accounts, it then offers silver, gold, platinum and vantage as upgrade options.

also for anyone waiting for this months interest mine is showing as paid now
    MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..

Many thanks to the posters on here who gave me the tip on how to do the Classic to Classic Vantage upgrade.

The upgrade is certainly is buried away beneath at least a couple of layers.

    Anyhow, now sorted! Job done!
  • I opened a classic account with the idea of upgrading it to vantage on saturday. Havent received anything in the post yet, how long should i wait? and will it appear online automatically?
