Sold my first thing on ebay for the amazing price of £1.04!! Still- its a sale and I reckon that after fees and p+p I will be about 90p in profit.
Won another £25 on BB on Sunday so thats a bit more in the4 bank too.
woo hoo- I am nearly a millionaire!!!
Glad everyone else is still feeling mostly positive!lovin' this site!

Not sure if others agree, but mid-Jan might not be a good time to put things on Ebay. People are basically skinned (like me) and do not want to spend, or if they do, want it as cheap as possible.
In my opinion, end of the month should be better to shed stuff.
Yes, it does feel a little bit like pulling teeth at the moment. I am trying all sorts of different options and shifting things, but not making more than a £1.00 or two profit after postage and packing and fees, on each item. A couple of BIN items, that went really well early in the month, have been my big money makers. Still if we can turn a profit during the most difficult of trading periods, in a tough recession, we are going be flying by the summer!!
All these pennies add up and on that note I am going to ring Tesco, who have overcharged me £3.32 on an online order, and get that refunded.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. Well, I sold some stuff on Ebay yesterday - around £18 profit I think - I shall post amounts in my signature at the end of each month - I will know what all the Ebay fees are then:eek:.
Haven't done so well today - all I can put down for earnings is a 20p piece I picked up off the ground on the way home from the Post Office!:rotfl:
Trouble is, that hasn't made any impression on the £99 I've just paid out for my car to be serviced!
Ah well...tomorrow's another day.
Has anyone on here written a guide to BB? I've never even played Bingo - should I risk it do you think?0 -

Has anybody used the above? It looks like a free auction sniper set up, but is there a catch?
If I get no negative feedback, i'll give it a bash and report back.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0 -
Just a quick one ... this is proving to be a hugely expensive week for me ... building insurance renewals, necessary purchases and this is a time of year I always go clothes shopping for me ... I know I shouldn't but I need to wear something
. Personally I am not counting savings I make from getting things at discounted prices in this challenge, as I already would be doing it in normal life but anyone who is not looking for every way to save money on outgoings needs to redouble their efforts as it is amazing what you can achieve. I have been haggling as an Olympic sport, playing one shop off against another and (with plenty of smiles and humour) been making cheeky offers all week. Some times you are laughed out of the shop and other times you save a small fortune. The art of haggling is sadly a dieing art in this country and in many shops they look like they have no clue what you are talking about when you start making them offers but please persist as there are savings to be made, especially in this market.
One thing that did amaze me this year was the main department sales were really poor compared to other years with poor discounts and no haggle flexibility ... I think this has much to do with them under ordering this year with the recession (I have failed to find a number of things in store in main sizes early in the season due to low stock levels) but many other stores are desperate to shift stock and get cash flowing.
Without counting ebay and other second hand clothes purchases (a very good way to save money if you buy the right thing) I have "saved" over £1,200 in the last week through shopping around and a bit (lot) of bartering. To me this still sits in the cost side of life as I spent money and if I had bought nothing I would be financially better off, but if you have to buy something get it at the keenest price you can.

still not managed to put anything on ebay but in part of the declutter I found clothes I had stored and forgotten about, so have 'new' clothes without the expense! and also emptied an old handbag and found £2.04 - again not exactly a fortune but better than nothing!!! Tomorrow I plan on taking some photos and actually putting something on ebay...thats unless I find a new excuse that is!!! Love this thread!Life is a work in progress0

Well done Eyesparky, that's a terrific saving. It amazes me how the high street stores survive, with their tremendous overheads.I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.0

I too have car insurance, tax, buildings and contents insurance to sort out this month so a very expensive time for me. Add to that the MOT (£100 for some welding unfortunatley and the £80 horrible vets bill and I am seriously broke. HOWEVER- the wins on BB have helped enormously (with vet bill) and the other I was aware were due for renewal, so I have tried to put a positive slant on it and have gone through Quidco for the house insurance so thats a little more back on that (probably about June tho b4 it comes thu), and I am staying with the current car insurance becasue its a good quote with the plus that I dont have to find a deposit.
I think that what I am trying to say is that planning is the key when it comes to big household expenditure- know when its coming up and do some internet leg work to get the best deal poss. Even tho we are all caught up in the enthusiasm of working towards whatever goals we have set ourselves, dont lose touch of the fact that our ordinary lives are still ongoing! Forgetting something can be expensive in the long run! I nearly forgot about my car tax!lovin' this site!

Just a quick update...
Think my luck with bb has drawn to a close, nothing for the past 2 days but still have a week or so to go so will keep trying.
Had a look at setting up an ebay sellers a/c but decided I'll try the local free papers first, then if no luck I'll take the plunge . A bit daunting but all the thousands of other sellers had to do it for the first time so I'm sure I can. We have two freebie papers and some on line buy/sell/swap groups, sister sites to freegle/freecycle, I've made the list so will see what comes of it.
Thanks for the info re MusicMagpie, I sorted out my cd's and dvd's last night but could only find 8 I don't mind getting rid of out of hundreds . I really must be more ruthless!
Lovely to hear of everyone's progress and support for each other, thanks for the encouragement you don't realise you're giving me0
