  • hello! I'm gonna be a september bride too... 28th is our date. Been meaning to join this thread for ages but had to set up a new account... me & OH have both been members of MSE for years, so don't wanna use my regular login incase he sees something he shouldn't lol!

Been engaged for years, infact our engagement was mentioned in one of martins emails cos we actually met via this website! Only got round to organising our wedding recently though.

Like the OP, we live in England but are getting married in NI, and just to add to the complications my OH is currently away with the RAF for 4 months so I'm doing most of the organising! (which suits me just fine to be honest lol)

been home twice this year, have booked church & reception (Greenvale cookstown for any NI peeps)
ordered mine & BMs dresses, going for burnt orange to fit in with the autumn theme, my 2nd choice colour was cadburys purple which I think looks lovely, but it's become a bit too popular for my liking... want my wedding to be a little bit different.
have a band booked, and have picked a florist, just need to pay her a deposit to secure her.
spoke to 3 photographers last time I was home but they are all £1000+ :( gonna keep looking I think!

    lots more to do!

    Good luck to all xxx

Yaye more September brides, welcome :)

Autumn - I can't believe how popular purple is. I was at Hobbycraft over the weekend trying to decide how I want my invites and the bridal part was packed full of fellow brides preparing for thier big day and majority of them were hovering around the purple section and there was me and OH round the gold part LOL

So now I've decided how I want my invitations just need to get the stuff ordered. We are having mini pocketfolds for the day invites and flat cards for the evening invites. We're using http://pureinvitation.co.uk to order the card and I'm going to make my own embelishments and use our own printer to do the printing as I did a test print last night and it looked fab.

I've been so excited since the weekend, it's great. Paid 50% deposit for the venue today and finally booked the florist and even though she was the cheapest price managed to haggle a bit more discount :money:
    I :heart2: saving money
  • Six months on Friday for us :)

Managed to buy my dress off eBay. A wedding dress shop was selling off the last few sizes of some styles they were phasing out... so a dress I'd previously been eyeing up at £560 actually cost me £130 :D

Because it was such a bargain, I've said I'm having two pairs of shoes (a pair of heels for the ceremony, photos and wander through town for the family meal and a pair of flats for the evening). I've seen flats in BHS and heels at Next so even my shoes are costing less than £50! Hopefully I'll be getting those a week on Saturday.

My Mum's bought me some pearl earrings and my Nannan has a necklace that matches so my jewellery is done :)

Decided against the hot buffet because trying to think of something to please everyone was too difficult... so we're doing roast sandwiches and roast potatoes as our food. We're only having an evening party so that should go down quite well as something to soak the booze up :)

Husband-to-be has started to look at suits. He's sorting the DJ and invitations still too.

    I still have to sort:

    * Photographer (we think we're calling in a favour for this one)
    * Petticoat to make my swishy dress even swishier
    * Veil
    * Decide where we're having family meal after the ceremony. Must have cocktails :D
    * Shoes... but should be sorted as above
    * Hair... being a curly girl, this is a biggy
    * Transport to register office and back (again, think we might be recruiting mates to help)
    * Posy... can get this the day before wedding

I'm so glad we're not having a lot of fuss with a best man and bridesmaids and flowers coming out of our ears. I'm enjoying buying my bits and pieces without feeling like I'm stressing about it and it means I can the majority of my energy into finding our marital home :D

Hi there...I've posted a couple of times on the general wedding board so thought it was time I joined this thread!
Finally got church + reception venue booked for 2 Sept 2011...took us about a year to get around to starting to organise anything wedding related, but the ball is rolling now ;p
Getting there bit by bit, the most MSE related things I have done so far are:

Dress £60 in Monsoon sale :D
Invites - from HomeBargains but they are M&S - 79p per pack of 10 :D

Reception venue is £3k which is not very MSE....but that is for Thur pm - Sat pm so not *too* bad....
  • Hello! I have only just found the 'date' threads!! we are getting married on 7th september, the church is booked but thats about it :0/ lol we are funding the day ourselves and whilst we dont have a very big budget I still want the day to be nice and not just 'cheap'. We have decided which venue we'd like but need to check availability. I have my eye on a few dresses from lightinthebox.com , just need to trim myself down and try on some styles similar in the local bridal shop so I can see which suits me best, they say it will take a month to get the dress to you but most brides have had theirs within 2 weeks. I got my shoes from ebay, SJP style from Aldo's, they were only £35 new!! we have had an offer from DF's uncle to do the music, he's doing BIL-to-be's music next weekend so we'll see how good he is/nt and perhaps accept or decline then lol DF is a design student so he is going to do the invites and he is going to ask someone at uni if they will do the photographs. We have found a set of rings for £50 and will be ordering them in a few months. I'd quite like to make the cake myself but we'll see how time works out for us. Not bothering with favours as nobody takes them anyway. No flowers for the venues and just some cheaper ones from Tesco/asda and we'll make our own bouquets.

If I think of anything else I'll post back soon x

Hello Brucie-Bonus, Autumn, Spannarooni, CherryJ and anglecakes_smw, and anyone else I might have missed!! You all sound massively busy! Great isn't it!!! :D

I'm in limbo now! And getting bored as hell! :( Doing it abroad and having an organiser means doing a lot in advance!

Everything is ordered and sorted except the outfits for the groom, my brother (giving me away) and the best man. And that's all up to him with a little bit of ....... ahem.... direction from me.

I went for the comfy shoes in the end (see the 'find my dress/shoes' thread if you are remotely interested) - I don't really care what they look like - I don't do bling or high fashion. People will be too shocked seeing me in a lovely frock to notice what my shoes look like! But I might try to pimp them up a bit.

Oh just remembered, I have my mum's outfit to help with yet too! That is going to be traumatic - trying to get her away from calf-length floral skirts!

My, how time flies! Best wishes to you all. x
If you have nothing constructive to say just move along.
  • wow, finally got through the whole thread and I'm amazed at how many Liverpool fans we have here lol

we've decided to make some decs for the reception, papel picado. it's mexican style bunting made from tissue paper so that should all come in at around £10 if we do it ourselves instead of the massive price tags of the ready made decs.
