That's as far as we've got so far, but we have been engaged for less than a month.

Is everyone here much further on than me?

Oh dear, reading this sometimes makes a *liiiiiittle* bit worried! We've been engaged since November 2009 and havent even booked the venue yet. Although to give myself credit, I have spent the last 4 months trying to plan a wedding in Italy and have now decided against it and so going back to the....whats the phrase....drawing block?? Can't believe how quickly things get booked too, most dates in Sept are already booked although we are going for a weekday wedding so hopefully will be ok.

All being well we're going to look at a venue this weekend in Devon, which I have a feeling will be perfect, so fingers crossed.

I too am thinking of a humanist minister although not sure its legal in england?

well my plans just went sour, my brother (best man) has found out his tart of a girlfriend is 3 months pregnant after a "accident" so i told my brother that we're not having an kids during the ceremony especially a baby that'll be 7 months old, his reply: no kid, no best man

    just what i need really

    sorry folks had to vent

Oh dear, thats awful. I feel the same about kids at weddings, not having any of our own yet....although, for a baby who will be 7 months old, they arent going to be running around screaming (it won't even be old enough to crawl!)and sticking their fingers in the cake , so I wouldnt say its 'having kids at your wedding' if you know what I mean? We didn't want any but father in law to be has a new girlfriend who has an 8 and 9 year old :o and we're just going to grin and bear it, it won't spoil our day.

Could you maybe come to an agreement where you say something along the lines of, the baby is more than welcome during the reception and eve do, but just not during the ceremony? Or vice versa? :)

  • Haven't been around for a couple of weeks, so just catching up!

Welcome & congratulations to our new Sept 2011 brides/ grooms!

Oh no deano, hope your plans are looking better re. your best man.... oh no, and your venue, pleased to read that you have found somewhere else!

Hello blissful-bride, we are date twins!

I don't feel like I've done very much lately, my last 'big thing' to organise & which is my task for this month is the entertainment. I'm looking for a singer and dj, so far everyone I've made H2B listen to he hasn't liked the sound of! I think he fails to realise that we aren't going to get some famous singer on our budget! I'll just keep looking!!

Oh man, don't worry. The only reason we've booked a venue is that we went to see one that we liked and they only had one day left so we took it.

I think in England you need to be married by a registrar to make it legal but you could always do that quietly beforehand.

Well hello there fellow September Brides - and Grooms!! - it has been so long since I first popped in. To be honest, it was mostly because I was quite depressed about the whole thing and lack of interest on my friends/family's part.

We've still not really done anything :( Though I did go into a local Bridal Shop and try on lots of beautiful dresses. We did find out that I adore/look nice in the full proper "Princess" style, which I am quite happy about. On the down side, one of the two dresses I want (yes, want them both!) is currently their most expensive at about £1100 :o!!! Wonder if I can mug someone on pension day - or just rob the bank?...
(For those interested the dresses are:
Sincerity 3159, which is lovely and would need to be ordered by the end of the month as it is being "discontinued" and the shops sample is too small for me. :(
Benjamin Roberts 2058 (with belt, which is £150 by itself!) which is wonderful! It has an inner corset, which I adore the feel of and the dress itself. My goodness, it is simply lovely.)

Still not sure on where to get married. We're not really religious so Id probably feel quite hypocritical getting married in a Church, but it is usually cheaper and is close by etc *sigh* There are some hotels in town though and one shall be re-opening next month, so will be getting down there and having a look around and asking some questions.

We are still fairly sure we'd want a smaller wedding/meal on the Monday (26th) for the actual 10th anniversary date of ours and then a reception/party the Friday or Saturday following that for everyone, near and far! We'd most likely save money, as we could then do a big buffet ourselves and could make table decorations, favours (or anything else we fancied) too, which would be much cheaper. Plus Id get to wear the dress twice ;)
I have been reading/listening to some opinions on this sort of idea though and some people seem to think it is rude to have a reception (with dresses, cake cutting, first dance etc) on a different day. So just wondering what people here think? Personally I like it, as the day we have chosen is significant to *us*, but happens to fall on a school/work day for most, which we obviously understand is inconvenient and not everyone would be able to attend all (or any) parts of the celebrations.
I also think that by having some traditional aspects in the reception/party, it then includes those who couldn't make the ceremony a lot more. Much like it does if you have a smaller ceremony venue and so some people are only invited to the reception when it is all on one day.

I think I have the colours decided now too. They would be a pale pink and a turquoise (ish, have to find the shade I prefer most). This is mainly because we have some flowergirl dresses from a friend. She bought them when she was getting married, but they ended up going to Florida, so didn't use them. They are lovely, but as I started looking at all of the dresses today, I realised that I might not want them afterall as they didn't quite go with the styles I liked I though, so all of this could go out the window!

EDIT: Oh and we have got a set of guest lists. Day, Day/Meal, Evening etc etc. Mostly it is based on who we'd like and then those we'd love there, but might not be able/willing to travel or come on a Monday. So that'll be sorted out fairly soon.
On the same note, I could (and mostly likely will, as I am fussy) either make our own invitations or use something like VistaPrint (with their offers via newsletter from them) for simple ones (or just inserts?) with a design I can do myself. Just need to reinstall my software on PC and download the masses of brushes I had before my HD failed! :P I do quite enjoy designing things and then it'll be that much more personal - and can be use for thank you cards, address labels etc.

So yes, in amoungst all of that, I haven't really decided on anything still and still feeling quite down about the lack of "get up and go" I have towards it all.

Glad to see most other people are getting on very well. It is exciting to see the bargains everyone has managed to get and that certain issues some have had have been sorted :) I look forward to reading more about everyone's plans and, of course, money saving tips!

Have found a couple of ads of preloved for the Sincerity dress http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.listadverts/sec-Home+and+Family/cat-Marriage/subcat-Wedding+Clothes+and+Bridal+Wear/keyword-sincerity+3159+wedding+dress/1463f648.html - a lot cheaper than the shop you went to :) And one for the benjamin roberts - http://www.preloved.co.uk/fuseaction-adverts.listadverts/keyword-benjamin+roberts+2058a/a6a33eac.html - Youre right, they are both really gorgeous!!

You could also try others shops that carry the same designers.....the dress I want (Amanda Wyatt Madrid) is in my local shop for £1100 but found a shop who sells its it for £700!! Pays to shop around.
