I'm not an opponent of this thread, I've found some people's stories very interesting and I hope it helps others to speak up if they buy a crappy product. However, I think that asking companies for compensation due to their errors etc is different than this thread. And I think those that oppose this thread are just worried that some people will complain without even buying the product, never mind having anything wrong with it. I know most people won't, but then I know some people won't think twice about complaining about something that hasn't happened to get a freebie or a cheque. Not saying anyone on here has done that, just saying that I know some people will.

    How is it different?

I think that asking for compensation because you've taken different days off work waiting for a sofa to arrive which still hasn't arrived, or a utility bill being wrong and causing inconvenience, is more of an 'inconvenience' and more deserving of compensation than having no wafer in your kit kat. I still agree that it's poor quality and should be refunded, but I don't neccesarily think you should be 'compensated' for some things. I think sometimes compensation should be asked for, but I think sometimes it's xpected when it's not really needed.

(not having a go at whoever had no wafer in their kitkat, I know you found it a nice surprise to recieve a cheque and you didn't demand/expect it, but it was the first example I thought of from this thread)

sorry about terrible spelling in that last thread, trying to type with a baby on my knee who is trying the grab the keyboard off me.
  • but that is the same as this thread except you picked a good example from the compensation thread & a trivial one from this thread....what about my example about writing to complain about a delayed train service which put me in great personal discomfort & scuppered my chances of a new job?

if people are going to complain fraudulently aren't they also going to ask for compensation fraudulently too? it's essentially the same thing.. in fact with complaining you aren't expecting anything but with compensation you are demanding payment!

your twins look gorgeous btw.. any misspellings are forgiven!

Your example is one of the ones that I think are deserving for compensation. I just picked a trivial one so say that in those cases, when you've eaten the kitkat and ask for your money back, that's all that should be given. Anything else is a bonus and given as goodwill, but I feel that the goodwill is sometimes abused. I've had a look through Martin's post and see that towards the end it's turned into a thread similar to this, I hadn't read it all.

That's true, yes, but I think that with the 'bigger' complaints, such as your train being delayed or a person waiting on delivery etc, then you have the proof that it went wrong through the bookings or the tickets or there not being a delivery, if you see what I mean there, I'm confusing myself, lol.

Lol, thank you very much. Having one of them on my knee and typing is much easier than having two of them on my knee and typing! Especially as they're now finding how 'fun' it is to fight with each other!

Mine is very little and boring, but I was chuffed.

I bought that new box of hair dye to do my roots (the root touch up dye advertised on tele) and I did it, but it didn't change the colour of my roots at all!!!!! So I emailed them explaining what i did, and they sent me a £5 voucher.

Not a lot I know, but enough to get my usual hair dye instead of the root touch up stuff. I would never have complained before (being as polite), but now I'm starting to learn that I should!

That was my point.. he is endorsing his own thread which is essentially the same as this one so therefore this one must be in the spirit of moneysaving & shouldn't be pulled due to the possibility some people may make false complaints - which is FRAUD & everysingle person on here who has posted has discouraged this in the strongest terms.

we'll have to agree to diagaree on whether some cases are deserving or not... i generally think that if something has gone wrong, no matter how small, then companys should look after their customers and put it right! If they don't they should be named and shamed (GNER grr! - still bitter about that one!) or congratulated.

I agree with another poster in that i'm more likely to buy now from a company I perceive as 'friendly' based on these postings! + hope more people will stand up and not expect shoddy service/products....
consumer revenge.. that is the whole point of this website it is not about fraud prevention!

Sorry princessa this post isn't aimed at you at all - just all those who voted to close this thread!

Rant over... off for a cup of tea now!

That's ok, I DO see what you mean, and I think (good) customer service IS very important for a company to give. And I voted to keep this thread open, I just can see it from the view of people who thought it should be closed though.

It must be with me working for customer services (tesco) and some of the complaints I get are silly. And sometimes people demand to be compensated for silly things and are mainly rude when demanding it, so I probably see it from that side a bit more as I can come home from work upset, and sometimes I know that people are being nasty to me and calling me allsorts and they're being fraudulent in some way. I could give loads of examples but I won't.

But I'm on maternity now and they can't make me go back there, lol!

No - but the title needs to change
just wanna pick someone's brains really about how to go about complaining about the lack of hygiene in a bakers i've been in recently ie) wearing dirty uniforms, handling food without gloves, running their hands through their hair before picking foodstuffs up, licking their fingers to open a plastic bag
Obviously i didn't buy anything there, i was too disgusted, but its a well known bakery, all over the country i think. I just wondered whether i should send a letter of complaint to their HO and threaten them with environmental health or just contact environmental health directly?
