    Hi Everybody,

A while ago my Fiat Broke down and I was stranded in Wales, not good. Anyway got the AA to take it to nearest garage and it turned out that the coils had gone which broke the ECU. Overall cost around £420 to fix

I was told that this was a common problem with Fiat Puntos so I did some research on the web and asked some experts on this site an low and behold it was a common problem.

I made a complaint to Fiat Head Office and have been in contact with someone via E-mail. Basically I said if this was a common problem it should have been sorted out a long time ago and seeing as it wasn't anything I had done to the car I should be compensated somehow. Had to send copies of the breakdown costs and a bank statement showing how much I paid and they would look into it.

Finally had a response today and as long as I get it checked out at a Fiat dealership to make sure it meets their safety requirements they are willing to offer £331.27 as a good will gesture to make up for the amount I have spent in repairs :j  :j

This is a good thread as I've just voted. It helps people go about complaining the right way instead of screaming and balling down the phone.

A friend of mine lost money in machine so rang tfl and got a code to receive free travel for a day.
Then, in the post arrived a letter containing £4.50.
And no, it was not a cheque or voucher, it was coins, stuck to the letter!

Also, my Gran is funny, if something is off or not too fresh, she will leave it out all night and then bring it back to the shop the next day.
Once, she even exchanged a turkey at Marks and Spencers on Christmas Day , even though they are closed!
  • complained to carlsberg as one can was half empty in a case of 24. got a voucher for £5 so not too bad.also had some countrylife spreadable butter that was less spreadable than normal butter!!! emailed them and a mth later got a cheque for £4.50 and vocuher for free pot

Mine was a success but a long drawn out stressfull battle... !

Ordered jeans five weeks prior to birthday for my OH [this is from two years ago by the way]. The jeans were supposed to arrive in the third week and didn't.. they didn't arrive until eight weeks after I ordered them! La Redoute by the way.. and please people, don't touch this company with a barge pole!

Anyway, the jeans finally arrived, wrong size! I checked my paperwork adn their order confirmation and all said the right size, so I rang and complained [after speaking to various people in the eight week delivery period] and they said to send them back and they would immediatley send another pair.

A week later..two pairs arrived.. both wrong sizes!

Again, spoke to various people, usual gabber that it wasn't their fault, the manufacturers fault in France apparently, and would send out an urgent parcel to me that was to arrive in two days.

Five days later, jeans arrived WRONG SIZE AGAIN!!!

I mean really, are they trying to raise my blood pressure and leave me hanging off the rafters?!

I spoke to so many 'customer services staff' and 'senior staff' and 'assistant managers' etc.. it was a joke.

After deciding this was really just too much of a joke, I said I'm sending these back, keep the jeans refund me everyting and I want compensation for money on phone, letters, time etc..

The guy at customer services was very rude saying I hadn't given them a chance and I was being awfully rude to him!! what the!? he then made the fatal mistake of saying the 'assistant' manager I had spoken to previously didn't know what she was talkig about.

Oh yes yes yes! I asked to be transferred to this lady, and I was asked her what she thought of his comments to me about being rude and what she thought about his comments of her.

Next day jeans turned up, right size, no charge [originally £85]

battle to the end but worth it!
    LOL
  • Way to go :)

Catalogs used to rip me off n things like that.. so i stopped using them.

    i'm new to complaining but was inspired by the succuss of people on this post so started giving it a try. have had good result so far which surprised me a little as have never been a complainer before and wanted to share my successes so far;

    asda - £10 gift card,
    rowentrees - £3 cheque
    brut/unilever - £3 voucher
mc cains - £8 in voucher
best result so far (on behalf of son who spent his own pocket money.)
renault f1 team- polo shirt £40 , bag £20, 2x pens,keyring,2x toy cars, all because stitching on t-shirt had come undone (son very pleased with this result)

so pleased with these result that i think i've deff. been converted into a complainer

I sent a letter two weeks ago to Vue Cinemas and as yet have had no reply.

I went to the Leicester Square Vue cinema where I was horrified to be charged £9.75 for a student cinema ticket, which is over £3 more than my local Vue. I bought it because I'd already made the effort of going there and thought at least it might be a bit more fancy. Not even. The toilets closest to my screen were filthy, with three cubicles sharing one roll of toilet paper between them and one of the two hand dryers broken. And there were no attendants around to complain to. I was so angry I sent them my first complaint letter.

How long to follow it up though??

They should have replied in two weeks and appear to be indifferent to your complaint. Send another letter by recorded delivery stating you expect a satisfactory response in return otherwise you will write to your local newspaper about your experience with them.

    Thought for the day:

I once discovered what seemed like a small splinter in a batch of bread. I wrote to the manufacturer and sent in the splinter and was impressed with having been called back the next day. The representative explained that the splinter was part of a wheat stalk and explained the process of making the bread to me and where such a shard could come from. He assured me that it was a very rare occurance and asked if he could offer me some stuff as way of compensation.

Given that I'd been able to eat pretty much the whole sliced pan, and given that my motive was to make sure that this was not something like a lump of wood having fallen into a machine, I couldnt see any reason for compensation. I wasnt injured and wasnt put off from buying more of the bread having been assured that this was not a big problem - I've bought the same bread for 5 years since without issue.

I suppose I could have asked for the price of the stamp it had needed to send the letter to them, but I thought that a bit petty. They insisted on sending a voucher for another loaf of bread.

I guess my point is that if I have a problem with some goods that results in loss/injury/damage, then I expect that loss replaced or assisted with. But, I dont see how I need to get something free out of the whole thing. Compensation means 'replacement of something lost', to me, not 'opportunity to seek things I don't necessarily deserve'

I think this is a really interesting thread, but again am somewhat uneasy about the potential to suggest that free things should be associated with correcting something that has gone wrong. Just my opinion I guess.
