I am definitely NOT in favour of fraudulent complaining, but agree with the majority of posters that if you have received awful service or products then a polite complaint isn't a bad thing.

With this in mind I phoned Telewest yesterday. We had no TV or Internet for almost 24 hours at the weekend- including the England match period!!!
Anyway, the lovely chap on the other end checked my details and area I was in so he knew I was indeed a victim of the fault. Then he credited my account with 7 pounds. Not a huge amount but I was happy.

  • Hi there...

Bit frightened to raise my head in here now, as the OP i'm slightly taken aback by the monster I have created!!!

I do take on board the points that many have made about people abusing the information on here, but I don't agree that this post should be taken down....
I think it is right and entirely in the spirit of this website to encourage people to contact companies if they have a geniune complaint.

I know loads of people who've been ripped off, had miserable service, or bought a faulty product & they have just shrugged it off and said 'what can you do'...
telling them a past 'success story' usually changes their mind..hopefully they then get some compensation + the company gets feedback + can prevent the same thing happening to somebody else = all good!

Therefore I do think this thread is useful and should stay... maybe i should start a poll though!!!

Having said this, I would agree the title is misleading and definately want to change it..... any suggestions what to??

No-one has criticised the tesco R&R club (and I'm not suggesting they do)
-surely that is worse than this thread?
    Why are you all picking on me!!! {half-joking!!!!}

I don't think it was YOU that people were getting at monkey, but I think people are worried that if other more mercanary members fraudulently complain for profit, it may have repercussions for those with genuine problems.

moneysavingmonkey, if you opt to 'edit' your first post can you change the title?
maybe think carefully about your wording.

It is scary how many people will have no scruples complaining over things that have never happened, and then come on here and moan when they get nothing in return.
So, as others have said, many could see this thread in a way you did not intend whch ruins it for genuine consumers who have faults/complaints, and are treated with suspicion when complaining.

It's a fair thread to make though, as standards are declining in retail and dining out, and many people wouldn't think twice about throwing away a faulty product/putting a bad meal down to 'bad luck' , in which case the company has no idea, and it happens to others.

  • ok, well lets think of a different title then...
I'd rather that, than withdraw the benefit for everyone for the sake of a few bad eggs.
(who would surely would fraudulently complain even without this post??)

Kylie- you say yourself that reading this thread has given you the confidence to speak up when you get below par service...yet you are think the thread should come down??

Maybe people who are asking for templates just don't know where to begin writing a (geniune) complaint letter and so are asking for our help??

Yes true that some people don't know how to effectively word a letter, and I would have no problem helping such peiople write a decent letter to address a genuine problem they have had.
..but many others will just want the work done for them when they have no actual 'beef'..just want a freebie

Maybe retitle it 'Poor standards!? - Complaints and successes' or something like it
and have it moved to the 'complaints/ 5 star service board?'

Visit c 24 May Cribbs Causeway Bristol was marred by the fact that only beer available was Stella or Old Speckled Hen due to the fact that they were closing for a refurb in a couple of days and were running beer stocks down. This is despite them being owned by Mitchells & Butler Brewery couldn't be *rsed to carry a decent stock. Complained on their website that it had spoilt our meal and if we had known when going in etc would have gone elsewhere - result £20 voucher to spend at any Harvester. Didn't tell them that we did walk out and went to Harry "Rip Off" Ramsdens over the road
